I love this paragraph, sounds like the Declaration of Independence or something...

quote:
Ingenious ergonomics and an intrinsically logical and therefore self-evident operating concept make this car uniquely easy to operate, allowing the driver to concentrate on the traffic - and on the uncommon pleasure of being behind the wheel of the new A8.

I like the new A8 overall, much better than the new 7-Series (interior & exterior). The front looks decent, the back looks great, and the sides look good. Although, I dont' like the sill extension on the bottom. Honestly, I like the looks of the VW Phaeton better, because it has a cleaner design overall.
The interior of the new A8 reminds me a little of Jagaur, with the use of wood and the center console area design. I wonder how MMI will stack up against iDrive and COMAND. Should be interesting to see...
-Drew

Nice looking car, but I wouldn't say stunning....just like the same situation as the old A8. But the new A4 and A8's Passat looking front end is just not growing on me at all.
Steering wheel reminds me of something you can probably find in Chevy/Dodge trucks. Similar look to pLexus GS busy instrutment clusters...very un-Audi like. Looks like the shifter base plastic trim should be moved back a little to align with the rest of that control console along with the 7 series look-alike knob thingy.
I'd also hope they come with different shade wood panels.
Don't know...still like the current A8 better. I like the "Giant first GenA4" look better.

Generally, Audi offers three interior treatments (not colors, but mixes of materials) so there'll probably be different wood shades, not to mention aluminum or carbon fiber on S and RS models.
I'm a huge Audiphile and I'm quite pleased with this car. The side and rear I believe are much more handsome than the Phaeton, the 7 Series and the Merc. Still, the front looks kind of boring to me. It's handsome, just nothing new. It looks a lot like the A4 Cabriolet. I'd have much rather seen them go with a bold front end design, using (at least visibly) a large frontal grill reminiscent of the old Auto Union silver arrows.
I saw a drawing in Automobile about a year ago of what they thought the next A4 (now out) would look like. It featured a large black grill area, surrounded by the chrome frame. There was a bumper segment bisecting it, but that segment was matte black, and the chrome framing continued over it. That setup was MUCH more bold, and more like current Alfa Romeo and Volvo design where you wouldn't mistake it for anything else out there.
With the Phaeton being launched and not all that different from the front, Audi needs something to set it apart.

The old A8 had a very classy and elegant look, however the new one doesn't seem to be exciting enough in design term. I didn't like the new BMW 7series at first but after seeing the new A8 I actually appreciate the new BMW 7 a lot more than before. I think it is more interactive than the new Audi A8, I think it looks too ordinary, and I believe the VW Phaeton and it’s smaller sister the A4 looks much better.
I can't agree with you more. You and I are probably the very few that like the new 7 series more than this new A8.
I mean this new design is not bad, but just not too exciting...not bold enough like what they have done for the TT. I think at this rate, Volvo is probably going to end up with more exciting looking cars than Audi few years down the road.
I just think for the bucks you are forking out for this, you do deserves a bit more attention...that's all.

quote:
Originally posted by kellenersM5:
The old A8 had a very classy and elegant look, however the new one doesn't seem to be exciting enough in design term. Super classy
Those rims remind me of a thin spoke version of Concept Neepers, lots of chrome.
I'd still take an S60R over it but I wouldn't kick it out of my garage!

I think VOLVO has a big chance to challenging Audi, with its AWD system and great turbo engines; and especially with cars such as the S60R.
I also wonder what would Wolfgang Reitzle, former FORD Premier Group, had in mind for VOLVO. Too bad he is not in charge anymore. He had plans to restyle the S80s exterior and interior. Maybe a S80R to take on Audi RS6. (I know VOLVO can do it)

quote:
Originally posted by The_one_n_only:
I can't agree with you more. Love that scene! Was it Traffic?). The new one kinda lost that aggressiveness. The car IMO still looks nice but now it's probably just another car. You're right, eventhough I hate the new 7, the car stands out like a sore thumb. That's what Audi needs.
Wow! Audi sure knows what they are doing, unlike BMW. I don't think Audi's design needs to "stand out." I saw a new 7 series for the first time on the street two days ago and it sure standed out, in the bad way. I believe Audi should continue its quiet timeless elegance and sportiness, which is what Audi, to me, is all about. This is also what makes the old A8 to look nice all these years.
