Hi All,
Since we have already gotten one offer for 2006 S60 2.5T AWD from the dealer, is there the other charge here to finalize this deal if we finance this car? Please let me know the detail if you know the process for 2006 S60 purchasing.
With Volvo US web site, it seems Volvo US should cover the first 7500miles server. And it also provides the maintenance options with FSM636, FSM648 and FSM660. Shall we buy this maintenance options since we have no any experience to own Volvo car before? Please advise me.
By the way, Volvo provides some increased protection plans (Stated Component plan and Total care plan) for the further maintenance. Does anyone know what's the cost for these plans? Shall we purchase this increased protection plan? Please give me your opinion.
I am expecting your suggestion.
Thanks in advance.
D.C.

Re: Need your suggestion for 2006 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD purchasing (D.C.)

D.C. You are probably better off not buying the plan. Most of the Volvo service intervals are very inexpensive the first 4 years. Simply oil changes, filter replacements, fluid fills and the like. Besides that the warranty is covering you during this period.
So far on my 3 year old S60 the biggest annual service bill has been $149 (CND).

We purchased our S60 a couple of weeks ago. We purchased the tire/rim warranty. I think it was $250. The warranty covers both the tire and rim. Also, is is not a prorated warranty. the only stipulation is the tires must have at least 3/32 of an inch of tread. Having just spent about $220 for a tire replacement and additional tire repair on my other vehicle I didn't think $250 was half bad. I also seen my brother have to pay several hundred dollars to replace a rim on his Jag that picked up a big nasty screw on that road. So $250 I think is a deal.
My dealer advised me that the maintenance options were not such a good deal in our area. He said labor rates in our area are cheaper than say places like NY. So with that we wouldn't really save anything by purchasing the plan.

Re: Need your suggestion for 2006 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD purchasing (ss60)

It looks S60 has very good quality within 3 years drive. As I heard before, it seems the parts cost of Volvo vehicle is pretty high. That's why I consider to purchase this additional protection plan to cover its parts replacement.
Thanks so much for your suggestion.
Regards
D.C.

Re: (Rhack)

Hi Rhack,
Firstly thanks for your introduction.
What's the S60 model that you purchased recently? Is it S60 2.5T AWD?
As my last test drive with this S60 2.5T AWD, I found there were two plastic handles on the trunk floor under which there were one spare tire and one tolls. But at that time the trunk floor was hard to be lock very well by these two plastic handles. How's it in your S60?
Also with the option list from Volvo US web, the feature named the rear-window defroster with automatic timer is not available for 2006 S60 2.5T AWD model only. But it doesn't mention whether 2006 S60 2.5T AWD has the rear-window defroster or not. It is really confused to me. Do you know it?
Did your dealer mention you the price for the maintenance options and the increased protection plan such as VIP plan?
Please share me a little bit more.
Thanks again.
D.C.

D.C., In my opinion if the parts cost would strain your budget, you should consider a less expensive car. It will give you more money left over to enjoy life.

Re: Need your suggestion for 2006 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD purchasing (ss60)

SS60, Since it is the first time for us to deal with Volvo vehicle, that's why I ask so many questions here to get the information as detail as possible even for the further maintenance cost. Yes, it is a luxury car for us but still under our budget so far. Also my wife likes Volvo S60 so much, I will be very happy to see her to own one European safety vehicle with lots of fun.
Thanks for your honest suggestion. I will consider it carefully before the final decision.
D.C.
Re: (D.C.)

ALL Volvos have the rear window defroster standard as do most, if not ALL cars

D.C, a couple of responses to questions you had for me.
I did purchase an extended warranty. The standard warranty is 48mos./50K miles. I extended it to 72mo/72K miles. It cost an additional $1300. The warranty cost can usually be negotiated a bit , so be prepared to haggle a bit. My wife is the primary driver of the vehicle so I don't forsee exceeding the milage limits prior to the term limits. Overall I think if is a good deal. For a few extra dollars getting amortized into the loan I can live with the $1300. Plus the $250 I think I paid for the tire warranty. As far as the the plastic handles on the trunk floor I was not really concerned with them, didn't really look at them to tell the truth.

Our S60 is and has been a true joy to own and drive.
So far, we haven't paid a dime on maintenance (except for the Mobil 1 synth oil). The car has been very, very reliable to us. We have 15K miles on it and it is still as solid as the day we picked it up in Gotheborg.

Re: Need your suggestion for 2006 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD purchasing (ig_mb)

Ig_mb,
Your comments will give us more confidence to consider 2006 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD over 2006 Audi 2.0T AWD.
I saw you got the S60 with OSD. It was very interesting experience to buy this car.
Which dealer did you do the car maintenance for your S60? Is it Mckevitt Volvo in San Leandro? How's their service?
Probably we will meet on the road in Alameda if we go with the S60.
Thanks a lot.
D.C.
