I think you guys need to upgrade your maintenance programs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dailying a P80.
The quality range of "daily driver" is rather extreme for this platform. See: 99 vs 00 T5A V70s currently in my driveway. Same cars on paper, upon visual inspection, mods, maintenance ect. Literally could not be further from identical when driven back to back.

Anyway, few questions as a family member is looking for an older, reliable daily to replace a 4.0 Cherokee thats rusting faster than money can be put into it.

1) PCV. Passes glove test at least?

2) Heated seats work?

3) Hows the clutch. Is it an external slave or internal slave car? SMF up to: Wagons -395001 (last 6 of vin).

4) Starts quickly or takes a few seconds?

Im local (Old Wethersfield) and fairly inclined to come check it out.

Yes, but those are autos, which is what the seller is looking for. He has a manual, which is not what he wants to daily.

Apparently that car is not even close to passing safety inspection in its new jurisdiction.
Well, at the price, a decent amount of work is to be expected. I hope there is better luck attached to this one, the P2 T5m has had quite the experience.

Neither the Quaife nor SMF were never installed and both ended up in different cars. It still has the broken DMF that was reused when the clutch was replaced prior to its move to New England. The karelian birch trim was was installed but it was removed prior to sale and is now in my mom's S70.
I believe the current owner is going to sell. It was listed for a minute at ~$5k, and I briefly considered taking a look until I heard that it has not had a good life in recent years.

I think you guys need to upgrade your maintenance programs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dailying a P80. I drive my 850 T-5R all over the eastern half of the continent and am loving every mile. Sometimes 700 miles in a day. Since I dropped in the SC-901 and Dynaudio speakers the sound system absolutely blows my S60 out of the water and, for the music I listen to, compares favorably with the B&W V60s I've had the opportunity to play with. And, with all the wear items refreshed and the stock exhaust back on, I can't even feel the engine running when I'm sitting at idle, or hear it when I have the tunes going at even a moderate volume.

On paper my S60 is my daily but, in reality, I daily my mom's S70 now because, fully refreshed and also having the Dynaudio treatment, it's a way more enjoyable and reliable experience to cruise around locally, and she almost never needs to go anywhere since covid. And I sit in horrible traffic at least 5 hours a week for 4 months a year. Why spend the time overhauling my S60 when I can just grab the keys to a mint S70 instead? The S60 is mostly our winter backup car now.

thanks for the input. I still want a different daily and get that it works for you but it doesn't really work for me any more. It has basically come down to first person to show up with 4 grand in hand takes it. I have appreciated all the input that people are offering, I was not commenting on the car's capabilities to be that car to someone else only that it does not work for me. That linked v70 has a much more loved exterior and I hope it sold sad to hear it is running into inspection problems. We don't do car inspections in CT anymore so this one is a register (as a CLASSIC too) and drive. Hope it finds a good home.

1) PCV. Passes glove test at least? - nope but runs completely fine - this would only improve the drive. Mechanic told me that the older ones are less of an issue if its slightly gummed up. Again be aware that my use for this car wasn't cream puff but winter daily and around town for things. I have been commuting 300 + miles a week for 4 months straight and its been smooth and lovely save for a little oil consumption which is expected at that mileage.

2) Heated seats work? - yes and they are in fantastic shape. All power windows, sunroof and seats also functional

3) Hows the clutch. Is it an external slave or internal slave car? SMF up to: Wagons -395001 (last 6 of vin). - no idea. the car engages gears, does not slip and will roll forward with only the clutch pedal and no gas needed. I had intentions of replacing it at failure point which it seems to be far from. My thoughts are it was done when timing was done back at 275 but the only thing I can confirm is that it would not have made it to 316 unless it was done in the last 100k or so

4) Starts quickly or takes a few seconds? - turns right over quick crank and can send and share cold start videos and running through gears.

It has had a great life! I mean the years before I had it were rough body is def dinged up but the interior makes up for it. Its listed for 5k but know that is still too high never said I wasnt open to offers. First 4k or around that can take the thing. I know its still high like in the grand scheme of things but find me another manual wagon t5... (waiting) not tryin to be crappy but the car runs incredibly well, has all the wearables replaced and with less than 10k miles on brakes, suspension, belts and tires. It would be a great project, a fine short trip daily, work car or just a fun old school analog wagon from the golden era of volvo. :)

Is the last 6 of the vin a larger number or smaller number?

The manual is the only thing I miss from my S60 in dailying the S70. I hate automatics in city traffic but the rest of the car being 110% dialed in (especially Dynaudio and SC-901) more than make up for it.

Is the momma interested in a manual swap on the s70?

LOL no. But I might AW55 swap it. That would be better than AW50-42 in city traffic. And make it faster and more fuel efficient.

But one step at a time. First I need to see if the factory T5 ECM swap plays out as imagined.

A father purchased it as his son's first vehicle. The son was really excited and already named it. The family is super nice and I was so excited that it was going to be the young man's first car. I don't think it will be "restored to glory" but will definitely be loved. There is nothing like that first car and this guy got a pretty damn cool one. I couldn't think of a better place for it to go.
