hello everyone... it has come to that sad time when I must consider parting ways with my beloved 1998 V70 T5 MT. It has 315k miles but like new everything (tires, suspension, alternator, drive belts, timing belt, etc.). You can see detailed photos on my previous post here. Josie the 1998 V70 T5 MT with 312k - Intro and Pictures

It breaks my heart but wife said I can only have two cars and I need an auto for my daily commute for my new job. Given the rarety, I am first wondering what I should ask for this car and secondly, do any east coast fans have any interest. I will take best offers and I want to see it go to someone who will love it as much as I do. I have the listing posted on FB marketplace. You can see that below. Hit me up for questions and sound off in the comments below.

I know what I would be happy getting for it but I am not sure if I am being unrealistic or not. FB Listing here

My thoughts FWIW.....

That 99 V70T5M thread that Will attached to your intro thread was sold about 1.5 yrs ago for $5K. And that wagon had the Will and Jared treatment including a qualfie. That's the only comp I can think of recently. I would remove all the tailgate stickers, give her a wax and repost pics. I am very impressed how nice the interior is for 300K. GLWS

I think your closest comp would be the recent T5M that sold in the classifieds section...
The ask was $2k, I am not sure what sold for, but it went to someone on the forum as well. I am sure you could inquire and find out. Your's is cleaner on the inside, but still some food for thought.

As far as location, at times it is hard to find them on the east coast... but these days most any enthusiast will travel for the right car or ship it, so that should not really have any factor in the price. If you are baking in a little "make me sell it" to the price, which it sounds like you might be due to the wife forcing the sale, you should be up front about that. If someone absolutely needs this car, they will work it out with you.

At the end of the day, I think you need to decide what is the realistic price you need to let it go and go from there.

This is just my opinion, anyone is free to disagree.

Just leave it listed for $7k and either someone pays that much for it or eventually the wife accepts that you have three vehicles lol
I like your approach potter! I just put 7k on there cause the market is insane and if a 98 civic hatch is getting 4-5k in good shape then why can’t a lovely Volvo get similar cash. I think I like the three cars idea!

Find a place to put it and keep it. You'll be sorry you got rid of it, especially if it's sold for pennies on the dollar. I would drive this for work and get a mileage allowance before I bought an auto if I had the choice... If you store it even at a buddy's house, driving it every month for a small stint will keep it limber and in decent mechanical shape.

Not sure where you are on the east coast but by summer, in CT will have a 210 K mile 2001 T5 engine with timing belt cam seals and PCV replaced at 160 K miles engine avialable for pennies on the dollar. ;-)

Why do you need an auto?

Swapping in an M56LK would be easier to drive in traffic than any auto box. Slower! No riding the brakes to crawl.

I don’t really need it I want it. The Volvo is an amazing car don’t get me wrong but it’s creaky loud and not very isolated from the world. I have a new job that is increasingly stressful and spend about 40 min each way commuting. What I want is something dead quiet smooth with a really nice stereo and sound isolation from NVH. For me the wagon is a fantastic roll around do errands Home Depot run etc but it’s just sort of grinding on me a bit. That’s all personal preference. I know it’s a great car and the manual part isn’t really factoring in heavy. It’s just the 3-5 hours a week spent in a 20+ year old car. I’m getting old and want a bit more luxury that’s all. And I don’t want to get rid of my Boxster so the wagon is on the chopping block.

Agree with you 100%. I had a 99 V70 manual that I commuted in. Granted it wasn't a turbo, but spending close to an hour and half in it each day got old. Or maybe it was me just getting old (46 now)!
If it were me I'd be happy with $3K and just move on with life. Get yourself a P2 or P3 XC70 if you want a comfy commuter cruiser, just my .02c.

Pretty much there. Thinking a Pacifica cause I need to haul stuff around for my new house. It’s a good ride but I find that get a bit sore cause the seats don’t have a ton of thigh support.

CPO V90 CC is what I’d do. Or a super nice P2 or P3 XC70 and put some money in your pocket compared to a Pacifica.

Oh damn that’s a nice one! I’ve def considered it! We haul and pick up furniture so I would prefer a bit more height but def think that p2 would be really nice.
The XC70 is basically a box so it’ll swallow far more stuff than you’d think for a car that size. Even a P2 XC90 is a great car for the money, and will hold a huge amount of stuff

I think you guys need to upgrade your maintenance programs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dailying a P80. I drive my 850 T-5R all over the eastern half of the continent and am loving every mile. Sometimes 700 miles in a day. Since I dropped in the SC-901 and Dynaudio speakers the sound system absolutely blows my S60 out of the water and, for the music I listen to, compares favorably with the B&W V60s I've had the opportunity to play with. And, with all the wear items refreshed and the stock exhaust back on, I can't even feel the engine running when I'm sitting at idle, or hear it when I have the tunes going at even a moderate volume.

On paper my S60 is my daily but, in reality, I daily my mom's S70 now because, fully refreshed and also having the Dynaudio treatment, it's a way more enjoyable and reliable experience to cruise around locally, and she almost never needs to go anywhere since covid. And I sit in horrible traffic at least 5 hours a week for 4 months a year. Why spend the time overhauling my S60 when I can just grab the keys to a mint S70 instead? The S60 is mostly our winter backup car now.

Apparently that car is not even close to passing safety inspection in its new jurisdiction.

Neither the Quaife nor SMF were never installed and both ended up in different cars. It still has the broken DMF that was reused when the clutch was replaced prior to its move to New England. The karelian birch trim was was installed but it was removed prior to sale and is now in my mom's S70.
