I have a few ideas up my sleeve for a clear lens to replace the stock ambers, but don't have the luxury of downtime when I pull the headlights apart. The best way to do this is to use a set of loose ambers as templates for fabrication of the replacements.
Any chance that someone who removed their ambers resisted the urge to throw them out AND would consider parting ways with them? I'm open to paying for a good set, but not too much as they are not going on the car. Alternatively, I could pay for shipping both ways and return the ambers later.
Feel free to post here or IM me if you can help me out. Thanks in advance.
- Tryg

You can send an IM to boosted and Scott Hart. They both removed their ambers when they painted their headlights. You can also look at those Rs that have been in accidents. Someone posted a location of damaged and totaled Rs.
I would love to see something like a clear lens. I asked this question last year some time and people said that it was not possible.
Let me know if you get this working.

Re: Need stock ambers from "R" headlights (pie_ya)

Thanks pie_ya for the suggestions.
I have open access to a shop where I can do some bending, milling and shaping of polycarbonates/plastics. The trick will be finding a product I am confident will not yellow over time. What I would like to see is a clear replacement with a polished outside and frosted inside to soften the light from the sidemarker bulb. It might also look nice to go with a vertical or horizontal rake pattern on the outside face.
We'll see - I have too much time on my hands lately.
- Tryg

I was also thinking about a slight shade of gray would also make it look nice during the daytime. Not necessarily a painted silver/gray, but a slightly darker shade than clear...still transparent though. It would go good with silver and ti gray.

You can have both of mine. Good thing I still kept them. They were going out with this week's trash.

Re: Need stock ambers from "R" headlights (wrxownr)

Are you referring to the company in Sweden that makes aftermarket clear reflectors for the non-R S60's? If so, no, I never received a response. Perhaps my email never made it to the right person, or they need more emails from other interested R owners to see it as a worthwhile exercise.
I lost interest in fabbing my own replacements because I would need a set of loose ambers to play with... not easy to come by. The more I thought about this idea the more I realized that they would likely turn yellow over time and look like crap. I think Mike_C70 has the right idea. He is removing his amber reflector, filling the recess and painting the shroud to look just like a euro model.
- Tryg
