I have a bearing going out (droning or roaring which goes away on a sweeping turn towards the right) but can't tell exactly which one from the sound, or even front or rear, because of the way the sound is transmitted throughout the chassis.
When my indy replaces the bearing, I want to make sure the latest part number is used.
I searched and found out from this thread http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=78010 dated May of 2007, that a revised part number for the XC90-specific rear bearing is #31201011. . This new bearing is supposed to have better seals since the older part failure apparently was moisture-related.
Is that still the latest P/N?
In the event it turns out to be a front bearing, what is the latest part number for the front?
Thanks

Re: Need latest XC90 bearing part numbers (Synesis)

Its a very good chance its a bearing, but the roaring noise on mine was when turning right and went away when turning left, making me think it was the left front bearing... turned out they replaced the left bearing and its totally quiet now. Yes its hard to figure out exactly where it was coming from.

Re: Need latest XC90 bearing part numbers (Synesis)

I don't have the part number handy but I ordered mine a few months ago from http://www.rockauto.com as they were significantly cheaper than anybody else. I had the EXACT same symptoms and really couldn't be sure which end (suspected rear) or side the noise came from. Further one mechanic (who didn't road test) thought it might be a bad CV joint (he looked and said one was bad.)
We replaced both rear assemblies and the problem went away immediately and hasn't returned.

Volvo P/N 31201011 Rear Wheel Hub
Dealer mechanic hoisted car recently and confirmed noisy bearings with stethoscope. Prior to repair, noise became more evident with increasing speed above 20 mph (mid-range prop-plane sound).

Mine were replaced at about 20k (in 2006), and the sound is back at 82k.
