I'm considering picking up a used S60 T5 as a grocery getter, and wanted to get some input on reliability. The car will not be driven too hard, and never tracked. I will likely pick one up with 30-50k miles.<p>How do the T5s hold up? I'd be looking to get 100k-150k+ out of the car. Is this realistic?

You should be able to easily get the mileage you have targeted, as long as you maintain the car as recommended. And use synthetic oil.<p>Yannis

Evo's are evil. They might be fast at the track, but they aren't as well suited to an autobahn cruise as a Volvo. They are different classes. I mean, for the cost of a new V8 XC90, you could buy a used Evo VIII ($25k) and then mod it to 650WHP. Ridiculous. Me want!

yes some "company" is making my shop demo EVO. some companies sponsor us the BB kits from rotora, stroker and turbo upgrades from hks, all electronic from apex, exhaust from apex, clutch from act, all estetic parts from apr. Just the bb kit cost $5800 and the stroker kit was $10,000 so you can imagine how fast that car will be 650-700 whp.<p>So we are saving money to finish that car.

Now that naturally this has gone way off topic, <br><B>an 01T5 can be a wonderful daily driver.</B><br>Just get service records and have the car checked out throughly.<br>'01's can be a but 'glitchy' so make sure it's been serviced.<br>Take a good look at any transmission records and if upgrades haven't been performed, do them and have the stop neutral function removed. This wil be done automatically now with Volvo 01 transmission software updates.<br>(I just did it to the 01 T5 I/m selling, WHAT A DIFFERENCE <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> , I forgot how much better the car feels after this software is applied)<p>Good luck on finding one with under 50K miles. The wagon I just bought with 40K was the lowest I've seen in two years

after a lot of friends who have 5 speed manual tranny volvos, we saw after 100k+ if you use your car at the track, drag and the clutch gone, is better to replace the flywheel when you get the reforced clutch kit, why? well is very hard to resurface a dual mass flywheel to remove all the bad/heated surface and also sometimes it has a lot of abuse and it can´t fix it, so for $300 usd why not replace for a new one? Like i did, Stage III+ from BSR and new flywheel, i used my car at the drag/track and it hold the power amazing. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>FORGOT TO ADD JRL i was talking about the last option when the tranny is hard used, in 5 SPEED you just replace the clutch kit, sometimes the flywheel if is required, in autotragic, sometimes is all the tranny so is much more expencive, got it? <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/rolleyes.gif" BORDER="0"> <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/zeroforum_graphics/screwy.gif" BORDER="0">

Only significant repairs I've done are front wheel bearings (under warranty). Original, stock clutch, still going strong (I don't abuse it on the track).

I might sell mine....it's in Swedespeed classifieds title: (2001 Volvo S60 T5 feeler). Just added an Evolve blue upper motor mount and soon to add a R steering wheel.
