I'd like to replace my new style upper engine mount and bushing with an IPD bushing and an old mount I have. I'm working on a way to get the blue engine cover off without taking off the the pipe or cutting the cover. If I'm not successful, does anyone have pictures of an engine cover that has been cut? What tool did you use to cut the cover?
Thanks,
George

Why are you cutting the cover? I assume this has nothing to do with the upper mount swap... sounds like you just need to swap an older-style bushing bracket for the new one (if you can still source the older style bracket of course).
- Tryg

I think there are a few people that have cut the cover, but only to after they removed it and the pipe as well. They wanted to be able to swap mounts in the future so they cut out a section of the blue cover.
Kevin

Re: Need help with large engine mount bushing. (KVB-R)

Very interesting. I assumed people were cutting the covers while they were still on the car. I was thinking about using a dremel and a cutoff disk to cut the cover. How easy is it to loosen the clamp the holds the pipe near the firewall? From the top I couldn't see a bolt or anything. Do I need to get at it from below the car?
Thanks,
George

The clamp around the pipe at the turbo uses a hex wrench. It's an allen head bolt.
I'd think you could cut the cover while on the engine. I cut mine after I had it off so as not to have to remove it again. Just take care when cutting. No You only have to remove the corner that is over the bolt head.

Thanks for the responses. If I cut only the corner material directly over the covered bolt, will I have I have to temporarily remove the bracket next to the engine mount in order the slide the rest of the mount from underneath the engine cover?
George
