The singing comes and goes, but I first noticed it a few days ago. When I would coast in a certain speed range (10-15 MPH), I would hear a harmonic sound probably around 440Hz and loud. The pitch was not tied to speed (either engine or road) and stayed constant throughout. Today I also noticed it again as I was stop 'n going around town at low speeds.
Given that is not tied to speed, I'm thinking possibly steering related. Almost sounds like when I went low on steering fluid last summer, except that all the sounds now are happening in a straight line.
Any ideas?

To a musician, (I am not one) 440 Hertz is A above middle C.
In regard to the problem could it just be something picked up in the tire, but that would change with speed.

Get your brakes checked. I had the same problem and they replaced the rotors and pads. Noise is gone. There is a TNN.

Do you have a TNN#? Are you talking about this brake squealing fix? It's the only potentially relevant TNN I can find on volvotechinfo, but that is just adding shims, not replacing pads and rotors. I had this TNN (below) applied last year.

Quote »

Front and Rear brake squeal
Item: TNN51-09-2005-03-30 Page Count: 3
A front brake caliper dampener and new rear brake pads with improved noise suppression properties have been introduced in production. These improvements are now available as a service solution. If a customer should complain of a squealing noise from the front or rear brakes follow the appropriate instructions below.

In looking at the paper work, they stated that both the front and back rotors were "out of round" and were both replaced with pads. No shims installed. No mention of TNN on the work orderI couldn't find the TNN. At low speed there was a harmonic hum and then they would squeak when the brake was depressed.
