Re: Volvo Believer After Witnessing Collision (Deirdre)
Deirdre,

It's a small world!

You certainly know more than I as I read your account with great interest.

I was directed to your posting as at the time of impact we had not so much as a clue where the Cadillac came from.

To our immediate right and slightly forward, was a windowless van blocking all view from "1 o'clock through 4 o'clock" positions.

All I recall is suddenly seeing the hood of a Cadillac appearing immediately in front of us and on a collision course with the center divider....
Next it was BAM, air bags, and rolling to a rough stop in the buffer zone between the fast lane and the center divide barrier; you are quite correct, the XC90 tracked perfectly straight.

Apparently, the initial impact to our right-front sent the Cadillac back in the direction from which it had arrived while spinning like a top (or so we were told). It wasn't until examining our vehicle, after the impact, we realized the force had sent us into the center divider which shattered the left-rear wheel - while cushioned in airbags this impact was never felt. Only one tire remained inflated.
Reading from the police report, the Cadillac was traveling at a high-speed in the truck lane when it came upon a slow moving truck and was forced into making an "unsafe lane change"; whereupon it clipped another vehicle and sent it into a spin while the Cadillac continued in a high-speed drift across traffic lanes. This is where we come in and you so aptly fill in the blanks.

Initially, I do recall two individuals coming over concerned for our safety, one most certainly being your husband. Please know how grateful we are for this show of concern!

And our Golden Retriever, despite giving us no reason to suspect otherwise, proceeded directly to our veterinarian before returning home that afternoon and it was confirmed she suffered no injuries.

Thank you, again, for not only taking the time to post your observations but to demonstrate such concern for total strangers.
