Hey there MNIWT...just wanted to say hi as it's been a few since we last spoke. I've been doing a lot of research and reading about what I want/can do to my car and I did my first real mod last night when I installed the Elevate Turbo Intake Pipe and so far I love it. Getting the old tube to the turbo wasn't as easy as I thought, but I'm slow and once I got that done it was worth it...although the tube took a little beating with some scratching. I noticed a difference immediately and will be doing the torque mounts when they get here next week...can't wait.

I'm having some issues getting the floor lights done though...even with that thread I found here I can't get the light out and the passenger side I can't figure out, but I haven't really looked at much because I need to know how to get the light out first.

I've also done some plasti-dip on the front (grille, fog covers and that middle part). I also upgraded the badge on the back to the larger spread lettering. Plasti dip is pretty cool stuff except I can only find black locally so I need to order some silver and maybe some smoke online. Your right though, it gets real addicting when you start getting into all the stuff you can do and your thread (this site) is a blessing and a curse at the time ;) I'm kind of mixing maintenance/cleaning with mostly simple exterior mods right now. I'm looking at some interiors besides the lighting, which I've already done. I'll try to get a pic or two up when I can, although it's not as cool as your or other cars on here.

Thanks for all your insight as you're videos have been quite helpful.

Is the Elevate mount going to be quite as pronounced an improvement, at this point, or should I worry about changing it a little farther down the road?
If you're still having any doubts about this, read through this thread: http://www.c30crew.com/forum/showthread.php?1302-Elevate-Torque-Mount-Reviews. Many of these C30s are practically new.

As I'm sure you've seen: remove the clear plastic cover to the light housing. Disconnect the wiring by the little clip on the back (you'll have to reach up behind the panel to access this). Then just push the little bulb socket/bracket thing out (the black rectangle piece with the bulb inside of it). Using tweezers, I carefully nudged the edges of the bulb until it came out. It took about 2 minutes of careful prying; just be patient with it.
When you put the new bulbs in, make sure the bulb is making complete contact with the metal parts of the socket. I had to slightly bend the prongs of my bulb to make it fit securely. You'll understand what I'm saying once you see this all in front of you.

I'll try to get a pic or two up when I can, although it's not as cool as your or other cars on here.
I'm sure it's still cool! You have to have more confidence in your car :) these S40/V50s are pretty awesome vehicles to begin with. Though, I completely understand where you're coming from... I was stoked when I got my first Volvo, then I started to lurk on here and I began feel lame in comparison. A few months later I joined the forum and started really getting into the car modding hobby.

...and I'm not done yet! There is going to be a 4th version of the diffuser and a 3rd version of my front lip. The images are "top secret" right now, but I'll hopefully have the "big unveiling" in the next few weeks!

Horn Relocation

Horn relocation! They're now behind the bumper between the grille and the headlights.

Looking through the open headlight slot:

Much cleaner behind the grille:

Hood liner replaced, from fear brought up in nkreig's K16 thread.

...and I stuck on my shiny new Heritage Club badge.

Nce job on the horns, Michael! How hard was it? I always hate how you can see the horns with my dubstop grille. Any chance for a quick write up? Seriously interested if it's not crazy hard/costly.

Simple Horn Relocation DIY

--

I was lazy and it was cold today, so I actually did this without taking the bumper off. However, it would be a lot easier to remove the bumper to get this job done.

First thing was to undo the 5 pin connectors on the top section of bumper (under the hood above the grille) as well as the two torque screws on the top corners (they sit nearly-in-line with the 5 pin connectors).

Remove the grille, then disconnect the horns:

Unbolt them from the brackets (10mm wrench):

To get the brackets out, I bent them backwards and wedged my 10mm wrench down the gap (about 1.5") to reach the bolt. To make this easy on yourself, use your iphone in video recording mode with the flash LED on, angle it so you can see what you're doing and the screen works like a little micro camera :D

I drilled into the sides of the grille opening for the horn bolts. You can see the nuts in this picture:

With the headlights out, then it's just a matter of squeezing your hand and the horn into the opening and getting them connect back to the wire clips (the driver side stretches just fine, the passenger side was a little tight in my case and that horn is pointed down at a 30° angle so the wire reaches).
This was probably the hardest part because I had to bend the bumper back slightly so I could fit my hands in there.

It took me about an hour to do.

Yep, vinyl. They match the black of the headlights perfectly, there was just a nice layer of dust from blowers in the parking deck that made everything look a little off.

As promised in another thread, here is what my old engine mount looked like:

The top rubber is barely any higher than the metal and the side points are completely worn away.

Compared to a new one, the top rubber is much more significant and there actually are rubber bumpers on the sides:

I've also rebuilt my gauge pod. Using the little glare shields, I made them a built-in-straight-extension off the pod. Pics after re-installation will come later tonight.

Yes it looks definitely sagged but the rubber doesn't seem to be in bad shape or falling apart.
It is probably going to feel much better but I would not have said it's completely shot that it warrants replacement.
I'm trying to be more sensitive these days in what is actually necessary to replace. I can't keep spending frenetically :p

Look again ;)

I just realized there's a tear in the rubber on the back as well (no pictured). The shop did tell me that my old mount would still work perfectly fine for holding the engine in place, but the lack of 7mm of rubber is what made me decide to go ahead and change it out.

I don't know what I'm looking at... It seems the mounts are a different generation which could explain the difference in dimension. You have the part so you know better but it doesn't look that bad from those pics :p

The red part is where the rubber should be extending, but was torn off by wear and tear.

Oh I see what you're saying now. Hmmm strange that there would be that much lateral movement to create such wear on an element that is not as important as the main seating

Added the light shields to my gauge pod, then filled in the gap to make it look solid.
