Step 5:
By pulling the end of the screwdriver upwards, you will be able to feel the clip moving. Watch the airbag.
Step 6:
When you undo the one clip, place a bone tool or so in so it doesn't clip in again.
THAT will help a lot. Most other write ups that I've seen, say to stick a screwdriver in the hole and pry around until it releases; I've wasted hours trying to figure out which way to pry.

Thanks!

That's why you unplug the battery and always make sure you're working behind where the bag would deploy.

Video please :)
As soon as I figure it out, there will be a video. I have a few more "involved" how-to videos in progress as well...

SuperbrightLEDs.com is a good site for the LEDs. I've done them in mine, as well. They have a slight blue tinge to them. Very bright.

Where did you get the eyebrows and the strut tower brace? I'm having trouble locating them.

Do you know the width and offset of those wheels? I'm thinking about 19x8 or 18x8 with a +32. I know they'll fit, I'm just curious of where they'll sit.

Very nicely done, BTW. I'm trying real hard not to do anything dumb to mine. As a result, I haven't done a lot yet. Interior lights, put in the HIDs, tinted the windows (35% all windows, 5% windshield strip, 50% entire remainder of windshield). About to install a bluetooth kit, and have a set of springs from Eibach. Just waiting to figure out what wheels I'm doing. But you've definitely given me some ideas.

As long as I'm out here, regarding your interior pieces that are easy to scuff, there is a place that may be able to help you out with some of the things. Atlanta Hydro Imaging up in Cumming (I noticed you were in my area) does very good work. They can do patterns on pieces (I did skulls on the slide of my pistol and have sent wheels to them before to be dipped with various images) or solid color, but the stuff they do is damn near indestructible. I don't work for them, so feel free to use anybody that does that kind of work, but it's very tough stuff....

My current eyebrows? Those are just vinyl. If you're looking for the plastic ones, I got them off e-bay. I may be able to find you a link if you're interested.

The strut brace is the OEM strut brace (a very very rare option that people got on these cars). I bought it off a member on here who got an aftermarket brace. The problem with the OEM, is that the K&N intake doesn't clear the bar.

Wheels are Midirs off a C30. 18x7.5 with a 52.5mm offset.

I'll have to look them up! Though, I've done everything on this car myself to date. I have some other plans for the interior, but we'll see where it goes!

What area in Atlanta are you and what does your car look like? I drive a LOT and see quite a few S40s but none of them seem to be on here...

Also, would you be interested in any small meet 'n drives? I may organize something small for some locals, go to a track day or autocross or something! I'll be sure to keep you posted on the official events, we've had a pretty decent turn out this year.

So tonight... I pull up in the Church parking lot and a guy walks up saying "Has anyone ever told you your car looks like a mad shark? That is SICK, by far one of the best looking Volvos I've ever seen. Keep up the good work!" Made me smile and I'm not trying to boast, we all know what it's like to receive compliments on our cars :) Now I just need to get all of these little detail projects finished so the car is really ready to show off...

WOHO!!!

FANTASTIC! Just need to get those light parts dark aswell. The sunvisors can be sprayed and they hold it... The handles should be sprayable. The dome light housing should be sprayable too!

But: LIKE!

I always liked dark interiors. My last Volvo (1991 960 wagon) had a really dark purple ceiling/headliner... I loved than. When I get my seats done, I'll be doing my headliner too... But not black :)

I thought about painting all of those piece, but it's strangely a beautiful contrast that the pictures just don't capture.

Black headliner with the tan bits.
Black seatbelts with the tan seats
Black control panels with tan surrounds.

It flows through the car pretty well, but I'm done yet!

And I agree, dark interiors are MUCH easier to keep clean looking. Plus, I can easily cut a spot out of it for falling-headliner-repair work and the black masks it well. Always glad to have tan seats in the summer though.

I will say, this is a thicker "fleece-like" material. After really tightening down the sunroof and having a heavier sunroof shade, there are NO rattles coming from above my head.

I was going to ask what you used...

I was thinking of using Alcantara (TM). As my seats are supposed to be a nice chocolatey brown (mmm) with some anthracite details as well as whitch stitching, I'll be having a dark grey/anthracite headliner... As most of the interior is grey already, I can do it in advance :D

"Wheels are Midirs off a C30. 18x7.5 with a 52.5mm offset."

Hunh...look good. More aggressive than I would have thought that would be. Maybe now I'm thinking +40 offset for the wheels. Trying to decide which way to go. I work for American Racing, thinking about Lorenzos or possibly some Lexanis, but can't make up my mind. All the ones I really want don't come in my bolt pattern. Decisions, decisions....

"What area in Atlanta are you and what does your car look like? I drive a LOT and see quite a few S40s but none of them seem to be on here..."

I'm in the Grayson / Lawrenceville area. I work up by Gwinnett Place Mall. My S40 is blue. Again, not really modded yet, so you probably wouldn't notice it.

Absolutely. Always interested in get-togethers...

And that center stack looks sick! I'd like to do something like that. I have the full black interior with the leather, no sunroof. The waterfall and door handles are that silver color, but the interior door handles show some wear, so I'd like to cover them. Needs some contrast.

questions on your led fogs. how is the light output with them? and where have you found them? thinking i want to upgrade to them soon and am considering those.
also is there function with the fog covers being cut out?
Light output is terrible. They're more for cosmetic purposes than anything else; which I don't mind since I rarely face a situation where I need foggies.

A friend with a C30 gave them to me, so I'm not complaining since they were free! I will have to get back to you on the brand, as I don't recall off the top of my head. But I do know that they are 19 LED clusters and Jeff said they cost him about $20ish. Now I'm sure that there are LED H11 bulbs out there that provide significant illumination, these just don't.

What do you mean by a "function with the fog covers being cut out"? If you're referring to the openings in the fog covers, then there is no function there. It just looks better in my opinion :)

Just a little update.

So many projects and so little time nowadays... The mix-matched interior is driving me nuts though, that's my first thing to finish up.

I've narrowed my mind down to two options. Keeping with the FGM or going with a matte aluminum look. The idea behind the aluminum is that it'll pop more and match the door releases. Or maybe I'll do a little combination of both... It's still coming along

No more amber turn signals in the back:

to

And from smoked bulbs (that still showed a hint of amber):

to stealth!

Also working on a "solid" A pillar (no material). Seems to be turning out, so I'll be re-doing the gauge pods for a cleaner look!
