Very bad news guys...
I've just talked to Dennis of Borton Volvo about my MY03 headlamp housing that has been on backorder forever. I was told yesterday about how Volvo screwed up on shipping the housings, and one of them were damaged. Not the best news to have, but at least I still have one that's good.
Today, I just thought of calling them and ask them to just send one out to me first so I can try them out with my HID kit. BAD NEWS....
He check the bulbs.... 9005 for the high beam, and H11 type for the low beam.
Don't know what to do now. Maybe I should consider keeping my current ones, and forget about this conversion altogether? B/c the problem is, there's no company out there offering H11 HID kit yet, let alone that I already have an H7 kit..what da heck am I going to do with that?!?!

Very bad news for me, 'cos now I have to find a new source for E-code lenses.
Anyways, just let me know what you find and what your decision is. Sorry to hear about that. That really sucks. I just saw the 2003 headlights at the dealership today and man are they sweet. But if they don't work, they don't work.

Re: MY03 Headlamp Conversion (C70SPEED)

Just talked to HIDsource.com, sounds like they can order the H11 bulbs HID kit w/o any problem. The catch is, it'll be 4300K kit not the same 5500K that I have. Other few minor details to work out if I want to reuse some parts from the old housing(ie: back cover), but it's not the end of the world. Just blows....

Re: MY03 Headlamp Conversion (The_one_n_only)

What? I just got my autolamps kit on the mail today! Why on earth would they want to start changing bulbs on the same freaking car? That would seriously mess up inventory. Also, the lumen output for H11 bulbs is less than H7 (1200lm vs. 1500lm for H7).
BTW, I checked the beam output for the new '03 housing and it's exactly the same as the 40 and 60 series. There is not sharp cutoff, just a blob. So, I'm guessing that there is a ECE version of this housing otherwise the current housing won't pass ECE standards. I'll check again this weekend with the dealer when it's going in for smog check.
Just an update: According to the Auto Lighting FAQ, H11 are meant for foglights. Hmm... I have to check out the housing.

I just checked that earlier when I found out about it using H11...very disappointed. But hopefully that 300lm won't make much of difference and the look along will make up for it.

quote:
So, I'm guessing that there is a ECE version of this housing otherwise the current housing won't pass ECE standards. Just can't bear with the fact that I can't use my H7s anymore.
What would you guys do? Man...lately I just haven't had much luck with mods.....

Well, for me it's easy. I just spent 6 bills on a good HID kit and I'm sticking with it. Plus the E-code notch adds a coolness factor to my beam.
