Disclaimer! This may not be an interesting post... I am just thrilled to have my car and wanted to share!
Anyway, about a month ago I was looking into OSD. Then I learned that my employer gets the X-Plan price with Volvo. The dealership experience was great and I was able to get X-Plan - $300 for an Ash Gold S60 AWD w/PP, TP and CW. I don't know if this is a good price but I am happy.
I was prepared to pay cash for the car but the finance person discussed the option of leasing. She even gave me 3 days to think about it (after the purchase contract had been signed!) I thought that was great. I went home, crunched numbers and eventually decided that it made sense to keep my cash and lease with a 0.00152 money factor for 3 years. We split the $495 acquisition fee, but I did pay the $500 security dep.
Now the questions:
1. The screw cover on a rear door handle is missing. This is very minor but I'd like the car to be perfect (at least initially). Should I go to the dealer or would I be a PITA for doing so?
2. I got the accessories catalog and I am interested in the "parktronic" accessory and, eventually, 17" rims. Would these changes affect the lease? Aside from looks, what difference should I expect with 17" compared to the current 16"? Any experiences with "parktronic"? When I test drove the Jaguar X-Type, I actually liked this feature.
3. The lease is closed end. If I still love the car at the end (I have no reason to believe I won't) is there any wiggle room? The reason I ask is that I will most likely be way under on my mileage allowance.
This is a great forum, Thanks all!
I would be careful about any modifications to a leased vehicle. I believe that Volvo will expect to get the car back in the same condition as delivered (less "normal" wear and tear). Even though you feel that there is a strong possibility of keeping the car at lease end, many things can happen in 36 to 48 months. If you swap wheels, be prepared to return the car with the original wheels. I would shy away from the parking system, as that could not be readily removed once installed.
Welcome to the board and keep us posted on how you enjoy your Volvo.
Regards,

I am not really positive about this situation, but I am sure someone might know for sure. If I were you, I would shy away from the parktronic accessory as well, especially for a car the size of the S60. It might be more trouble than it is worth since you are doing a lease.

quote:
3. The lease is closed end. I am here! Hehehe!
You are correct on all, Drew... As far as having some "wiggle" room at the end, well, that depends. When time comes, you will be contacted by Volvo and they will ask you if you are interested in purchasing this car as they do not want to see it going back to them. They will (most likely) quote you a price that is a little better than the stated residual value and a pretty good interest rate. My advice? Do not do it. First of all, if you are happy with the lease why finance a used car that will most likely be close to being out of warranty? Why interrupt your cash flow and buy a USED car? Keep the money in your pocket and lease another car! And, most likely, Volvo will have some loyalty incentives to go into another lease, why throw all that money away? If you buy the car, you will also pay a sales tax on the price which will add to your costs. Aside from that, there is a very good chance that Volvo will have something more interesting (model) by that time and if not, the then S60 will be improved over what you have now. Remember one thing: Volvo does not want this car back! Why would you want to get something that they do not want?
Yannis

I just ended a lease on a SAAB 9-5 and they were down below wholesale before it was all said and done. But hey, Yannis is right--get a new one!
