Got word today from my salesman my XC90 is born. I've got my VIN number which has been established. The T6 was ordered (with Xenons) on Sep. 5th. The vehicle is awaiting loading in Sweden for the cruise over the pond. My estimated delivery was 12/20. So far, things look on schedule ... !!!

Congratulations doublel. Could your dealer tell you if you got the Xenons?
On a happy note our prior reported snafu on our car was rectified yesterday with the Sales Manager apparently pulling a rabbit out of a hat and getting us a car to replace the one that never got ordered for us. Wasn't exactly what we had originally spec'd but close enough for us to be satisfied. Still did not get those xenons though. We too have a VIN number and a FC code on ours. Scheduled delivery week of 12/30-01/04.
Yannis or one of the other dealers...if those of us that wanted xenons but couldn't get them have our cars loaded with the climate package is it possible to have the Xenons added later or is this an impossibility? Thought I'd just ask the question.
Re: My new Swedish Girlfriend is Born (GrecianVolvo)

Doublel, Congrats! I am glad to hear someone was able to get exactly what they wanted...
Yannis, for the Xenons- Do Volvo have the parts list on the XC-90 published yet? I wonder what parts are involved? Do you know if it's just the headlight assembly, or is there some control module? Also, isn't there also an auto leveling system that's needed?
Can this info be obtained from a dealer parts/service department? Just want to get an idea on what's needed and if it's a big job (in terms of hours.)
(Sorry for the thread drift...)

Re: My new Swedish Girlfriend is Born (nomis)

Well this girl is playing hard to get after all. Originally my vehicle was 'built' but it turned out to be COL (car on line). The vehicle order with VIN was showing up on the dealer status reports in Mid-November with a December 20 ETA. I got word early in December that the car was still COL with ETA of January 4. Yesterday on lucky Friday the 13th I got word of further delay to Jan 16. The vehicle has those darn bi-xenons, both myself and my salesman suspect that's causing the delay. It looks like an unlucky draw in the que when the bi-xenons ran short. This is our theory, anyone else seeing the endless COL status? (By the way some XC90 orders without bi-xenons have been moved up on ETA on my dealer status reports)

Re: My new Swedish Girlfriend is Born (doublel)

I doubt that the bi-xenons are causing a delay, at this point. I had three cars that had similar delays to yours and I was told by my contact at Irvine that all three cars were delayed due to initial Premium package content delays. If your car has Premium package, that is partly the reason for a delay. But the main reason is that your car was one of the unlucky ones, meaning that there was a batch of XC90s that had some initial quality concerns and Volvo did not want them released without being 110% perfect so that the stellar image of the XC90 would not be tarnished by excessive warranty repairs and.or buybacks, much like the S80 was in 1999.
I think they learned their lesson, this time around.
Yannis

Thanks Yannis,
I guess I can really thank my "lucky" stars for the quality delay. My salesman informs me that on the TriColor ship that went down approx. 1,000 were Volvos and 200 of those were XC90's bound for Baltimore!!! If not for the delay my girl would have probably drowned before the honeymoon.

Anyone know how long it is from port of origin to Baltimore? From Baltimore to Dealer? I realize the Dealer question involves some variable, but these cars just get unloaded and reloaded on transports immediately?
Another way to look at it, if a car is due say Dec 20th, does it leave origin around what date?

But, typically, it takes 2 weeks or so from Goteborg to the arriving port...
I am going to go on a limb here and guesstimate that the cars due for the East Coast (on that ship) were very late December arrivals. But let's hope that there were more than one ship arriving at that time so that the loss will be diluted. I have been told that there are arrivals every 5 days...
Yannis

Hi Yannis, So since you're giving out shipping/delivery info then can you answer the rest of the question and give us West Coast'ers an idea of how long we wait from the date it sails to arrival at the West Coast port? Normally does a shipment stop on the East Coast and unload and then move on with the rest of the shipment through the Canal to the West Coast? How long does this transit from East to West Coast take? We're being told that ours didn't drown but we are wondering whether it has already landed for our expected delivery of 12/30?

I would need to know when that car went on LOVE status and then we can guestimate. Based on what I have heard from others, transit from the RIGHT Coast to the other Coast takes about 2 weeks.
Yannis
