Hi guys,
Just want to show you guys what I have been driving since I came back to Hong Kong 1 and a half year ago.
2000 Subaru Legacy B4 RSK. 2.0L twin turbo flat 4. Terence,
Great looking and performing car! WTF? Why doesn't Scooby bring that car stateside! I am very fond of that flat-4, for sure.
Subaru will soon be coming out with the WRX S202 and B4 STi, those should be killer cars as well.
-Drew

Twin turbo 4-banger?

The Subarus they sell outside of the Americas are very impressive. We get crap. That car won't meet American emissions and putting 93 octane in it is about as good as pissing in it.

The WRX STi should be interesting. The new Mitsubishi lancer is also going to be nice (~280hp turbo 4, AWD), but it doesn't stand a chance on the highway. When he's redlining in 5th gear I'm just finishing up with 3rd

But you do have to respect a 4-banger...SPANKING your V8 from 0-60 and probably all the way before your mods. Because if these two get modified then you have no prayer. Especially if the "match" leaves the pavement and moves onto gravel or dirt... NO CHANCE!
Yannis

Only thing we can really brag about when comparing with these cars is straight line accelearation at top end. Try to take your car and a WRX or Evo to the road course...that'll be interesting.

I've lost to 4-bangers before. The DSMs have been around for years.

Who the hell pulls up next to someone and says "let's race in the dirt"? Not only does my car go nowhere near dirt or gravel, but there's nowhere around me that I'm aware of where that could even happen.

And you are wise not to take your car on any pavement other than asphalt (not because you may be worried about...stone chips!) because a car like the Mustang is worthless on anything other than dry road. OK...no gravel but...what about wet road?
But even on dry road...take your car--stock-- and one of these crazy r1ce burners, I doubt that you may be able to stay with one unless you are racing from stop light to stop light...Even then, a Mustang may be reading their license plates...
Yannis

AWD makes a car sickeningly fast off the line. Using the American-spec WRX as a comparison, the WRX will beat the Stang stoplight to stoplight, but from the top of 2nd gear on into 3rd and to the finish line the Stang will pull ahead.
Of course, that all changes with a few turbo tweaks on the WRX. Then again, take a WRX with ~$4k in mods (I know a guy with a WRX and $4k worth of crap done to it, runs low 13s) and a Mustang or Camaro with 4 grand into it, and the muscle car will again pull ahead in the 1/4 mile. Heck, 2000-2002 LS1s (Camaro/Firebird) are capable of low 13s right off the lot
