A couple problems with my beloved 2001 V70 2.4t..
1) My rear hatch / 5th door won't unlock sometimes, and the frequency that this problem is occurring is increasing. I think that I need a new power lock servo/actuator/(?). I don't remember what the dealer quoted for the part and labor, but it seemed very high ($400?). I looked online, and couldn't find the part. When it does unlock, it sounds like it's straining, or like it's slower, if that makes sense.
Any suggestions for finding this part cheaper?
2) All but one speaker in the car are blown. I'd like to just replace the front door speakers, but they seem to be riveted to the door. What are others doing for speaker replacement? If it matters, my radio HU has a cassette and single CD. I'm guessing just having a stereo shop like Fry's or Best Buy do the installation might be the best bet, but I used to do this sort of upgrade all the time, and hate paying good $ for something that should be so simple.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: My Aging 2001.. 5th Door Lock, and Speakers (StarmanDXE)

Thanks for the speaker offer, I'd take you up on it if I could afford it, but money is tight, and I'm looking for a very inexpensive fix to the blown OEM speaker.
Thanks for the info on the lock regulator and the advice for using a junkyard.. I will definitely check into this..

You still got my old doors around? Those speakers were fine (as far as I know...)

Re: (StarmanDXE)

Has anyone else observed the the speakers are riveted to the door? How do you deal with that? Drill out the rivet? How would you install the new speakers, use a rivet gun, or just a bolt/washer/nut?

I drilled out the rivets and used a nut and bolt. I used nylon locking nuts, and I went with all stainless screws and nuts because the door can be a humid environment if the car is out in the rain. There's only one good access hole in each door, so you kinda have to contort your arm (or find someone with long skinny arms) to get the nut on the back but it's very doable.
Also, standard 6-1/2" speakers can be mounted right to the stock speaker shell once you remove the old speaker from it, but it's glued in and is kind of a pain in the butt to get apart.
But upgrading the speakers is totally worth it. I recommend a component set for the front doors, because there's a tweeter but it's 8 ohm so you can't run it in parallel with an aftermarket 4 ohm speaker. You can however just disconnect it. Once you've replaced the lower speaker, upgrading to components later will be super easy.
As far as the tailgate, whether or not you go used or new on the lock actuator, getting the trim panel off is dirt simple so you shouldn't pay labor on that.
I have pics of the speaker install if you want me to upload them.

Re: (LloydDobler)

Thanks for the info, this confirms my initial thoughts. Thanks for the tip about unhooking the tweeter. I am a little unclear on your comment about being able to upgrade to component speakers later, but I think the speakers that I'm looking at are component, so I should be good. Right?
I'm planning to get this set, http://www.amazon.com/PYLE-PL6...r=1-5
I plan to install these, and I should disconnect the OEM tweeter, and I should be set, correct? I wonder if I should be concerned about depth?
Thanks for the info on the lock as well. A friend who is a former-mechanic has a parts connection, and is getting me the part for a great price.
The speaker mounts to the front of the factory mount, and it stands off at least an inch from the door. There's tons of room. I think in the high end sound setup they put the big 8" woofer in there.
