What's up fellas. I recently purchased my first Volvo, a '87 740T, and need to get some questions answered. Now she's not in the best shape, but only has 90.000 mi and runs like a champ. My biddest headache right now is the non-working overdrive. I feel like I can't open her up stuck in 4th gear and need to get this fixed before I get pissed. The guy who sold it to me said it's a common problem and pointed me to a ripped rubber boot, under the hood, attached to the throttle causing the problem. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Oh yeah, it's a manual. Any help would be great. I'll shoot my other questions out there some other day. Thanks.

Re: My 740T needs help (UnklRich)

Most likely the overdrive problem is electricial in nature. You'll have to check out the fuses, relay etc.
That black rubber boot is the cruise control if you described it right.

Hello and Welcome.
I would check the fuse 1st. then go to local junk yard and pull a overdrive relay located behind the ashtray in the top right corner. rectangular shaped relay white in color
