OK - talked with T Schroeder (he sold me my OSD 08 C70 T5 6spd MT) at the PNW GTG last Sunday. TOMKAT was the only C70 present...I'm the gray haired guy with the Australian Shephard in the picture posts on the S40/V50 SS Forum.
Anyway - here's the deal on why MY 06?-08 windows roll UP as the final step in the "Top Down" process.
MY O6 - 08 C70 has 2 'extra' buttons below the individual window buttons on the panel in the drivers side door armrest. Right button is "All Windows Down". Left button is "All Windows UP". The All DOWN function is 'one touch' - but the All UP button has to be pushed and held DOWN to raise all windows at once.
Gotta be some kind of weird Volvo Safety thinking to require 'push and hold' for all windows UP when the top is DOWN - especially considering that individual window buttons are one touch UP or DOWN.
Anyway MY 09+ do NOT have these extra buttons - and all windows go down and STAY down when the top goes down. Go figure.
T Schroeder sez the MY 06-08 C70 window module and software package is different than MY 09+, so NO VADIS SOFTWARE UPDATE will fix this little 'annoyance'.
What timing! I'm about ready to bring TOMKAT in for it's "one and only" 7500 mile Factory (paid for) Scheduled Maintenance, and have 'em disable DRL (Daytime Running Lights) so I can (possibly) upgrade to aftermarket Bi-Xenon HID's this winter.
Guess I won't have to worry about my windows rolling up when the top is down now...will just have to push that damn button. Once.

That function is pretty much normal for a convertible. My 2000 SL500 did the same thing.

Re: MY '06-'08 C70 Windows UP when top goes down (jschiltz)

Jenn! Great to hear from you again! How'd the insurance thingy work out with your C70?
My C70 is an 08 (like yours...since we picked 'em up at the same time?) We both have the extra "all down" and "all up" buttons. According to T Schroeder...the O9 C70's do NOT have these extra buttons - and when the top down button is pushed - all windows go down and STAY down.
Can another SS member with an 09 confirm, please?
There was a beautiful Vanilla Pearl/Cream Leather 09 C70 in Sandberg's showroom at the PNW GTG last Sunday...but I was having too much fun testing "City Safety" and talking to other SS members to check out the window control panel.
Hey - quick question...when is it too HOT to have the top down?

Re: MY '06-'08 C70 Windows UP when top goes down (tomkat73)

My wife and I rented an 09 C70 a few months back. This one did not have the all up/down button. The windows went UP after opening the top, not down.
And BTW, we did put in our order for a MY10 C70 last week. We picked vanilla pearl and calcite cream after seeing that very same car in Sandberg's showroom. (We also went for the sovereign hide leather, but were unable to find a C70 to look at with the upgraded leather anywhere)

I have a MY 09. It does not have the extra buttons for the windows and when the top goes down the last thing to happen is the windows go up! I asked the service department one time if they could fix that via a software change and they said no.

Re: MY '06-'08 C70 Windows UP when top goes down (tomkat73)

Tomkat -
My car is finally all fixed - after a very painful 7 months of being in and out of the shop for a total of 85 days!
I just realized you have the MY08 that you bought pre-built. Yes - we went the same time, but I did a custom build MY09. I do not have the all up / all down button and when the top down button is pushed - all the windows go UP and STAY up. I've asked the service department if this could be changed and they said no. Must be something new they did with the MY09.

Quote, originally posted by tomkat73 »

Hey - quick question...when is it too HOT to have the top down?

ummmm - when it's 115 here in Arizona!!! Way too hot! But, I can take 2 months of the top up when I can have 10 months of the top down - even if I have to put the heated seats on mid January

105 in Texas is HOT, but if traffic is moving, I still enjoy going topless. Sitting still in stop & go Rush hour can get uncomfortably hot, but it's wroth it to me

Re: MY '06-'08 C70 Windows UP when top goes down (jschiltz)

Great to hear that your 09 C70 is all fixed. Still - you have to feel a bit 'violated' after what happened to your car.
TomkatII (my '91 Fire Engine Red Acura Legend Coupe) was stolen out of a golf course parking lot (true story - Dude! Where's my car?!). They found it a week later at a strip mall (no...not strip club). The worse part of it all was the fingerprint dust ALL OVER my Cream Leather carpet and interior. Never could get it all out despite multiple details and cleanings.
Anyway - I felt quite 'violated' driving it out of the impound lot. Took me about a year to get over it - then I'd see a fingerprint dust spot and go through it all again.
T Schroeder sez that there is a VADIS Software fix for the 09 C70 "All Windows Up when the top is down" syndrome (but not for the 06-08 as we have a different window control module).
Another SS C70 Forum member or sponsor is gonna have to do some investigative reporting and come up with the part # so you lucky 09+ C70 owners (with your fancy Factory Scheduled Maintenance, standard Bluetooth and now "Safe & Sound Protection Plan") can roll back the top...and have the windows go down and STAY down.
If other manufacturers' convertibles windows went up at the end of the 'top down' sequence...all the more reason for Volvo to be different.
I like the "one button" push feature...it's just "counter-intuitive" to have the windows come back up at the end of the top down sequence.
The C70 HTC is the PERFECT PNW car. Warm and quiet as any coupe in the cool, damp weather we have half the year here - but we're driving the absolute envy of all those SUV, Minivan and sport sedan drivers when the sun comes out.
I've had the top down 152 days this year and counting.....

My Euro-spec C70 T5 MY09.
All windows stay up when the "folding-cycle" (is that even a word?! ) is done. But I have the all windows up/down button in the drivers door.

Re: MY '06-'08 C70 Windows UP when top goes down (T5_awd)

You can actually get around this by releasing the top down button after the boot locks down, but before the windows start to go up. You'll still get the "Top Fully Open" message, but the windows will stay down (the windows going up is not actually part of the top mechanism, it's triggered afterwords). It's not a perfect solution and the timing is a little tricky at first, but it works.

Re: MY '06-'08 C70 Windows UP when top goes down (Faerin)

Thanks Faerin! An interesting hack. I'll try it today and report back.

When putting down the top on my 08 C70 (US Specs) - the 1st thing that happens is the windows go 1/4 down....and stay that way until top goes down and the trunk lid is latched....then the windows roll up.
So, sorry Faerin - doesn't appear to be any way to "release" the top down button and have all windows down...cuz they never get all the way down without manual intervention. Oh well.
