Got a long road trip planned for this Thursday (actually going on Friday to Nude Hampster). I know the primary route - I40 east to I75 north, to I95 north. I was wondering if anyone knows and would recommend an alternative route through WV and PA. If so, thx for the suggestions.
PS- I realize this isn't really "R-related", but I know there are a lot of trippers (road and otherwise ) in here.

Re: Music city to the Naked City (pktojd)

I'll generally avoid I-95 whenever possible (at least north of Wash DC).
I-81 is a good interstate . . . you can pick it up in Knoxville, follow it all the way to I-84 near Scranton, PA. Then I-84 east to the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90), and north on I-495 within Mass towards New Hampshire.
If you tell me what town you're going to in NH I could make suggestions from there . . . but the way I get up to the NH lakes region from I-495 is Route 3 north through Manchester & Concord NH (it eventually merges with I-93), & smaller state roads to whatever our destination may be.
If you're near Conway NH middle of next week, I can give you a turn behind my ski boat!
- Mark

Re: Music city to the Naked City (geoguy)

Thanks for the invite. Bachelor party on Lake Winnipesaukee. Way back, I lived in Boston, New Haven, and NY, so the last stretch I think I can cover. (probably spend the nite in NYC and then do i95 to i84 to i90 to i495, then on up i93). Sorry I'll miss the boating.

When I have to go near NYC, I'll often take 684 between I-84 & the Tappan Zee bridge. CT traffic is horrible nowadays (frankly, I think it is time to thin out the herd), but 684 usually seems to be better than I-95.
Enjoy NH . . . & I'll take one slalom run on your behalf . . .
- Mark

I would recommend I-40 east to I-81 north to I-78 east to the NJ Turnpike and I-95 north to NH.
