I've been looking for a parts R for a long time, ever since I bought Mulva. Initially I wanted a twin so I was holding out and being picky on what car I put interest into but it started to become apparent I was not going to find another 04 TI/Gobi that was not garbage easily. (Not in decent shape and a good deal anyways)
Eventually I did find an 04 Electric Silver/Gobi, rust free two owner California V70R for a good price IMO. After talking with the guy I had a few friends go look at it and pick it up for me, sight unseen, and store it until I can get down there to drive it home, yes drive home a parts car 600 miles. I thought this would make a good thread to start on S/S so I am going to document the trip and events.

First a little bit on Mulva, the name comes from Seinfeld for any of you whom watch and know the best show on earth:p. I picked her up as a two owner locally in Boise Idaho with 120,000 miles. Well maintained, full records, clearly cared for, I initially wanted to keep all stock because its easier and I think these cars present well in stock form anyways. Things happened, like my transmission dying after 2000 miles, the car had immaculate records including the trans being replaced, but the shop wouldn't honor the work because I was not the purchaser. So off to ARD it went for a manual swap, and other upgrades, because this was the third transmission for Mulva, according to my records, and since the M66 is more robust I figured it wasn't stock anymore so why not beef her up. ARD did me right for the most part, I did have some issues with them and the tune sucked so now she is running Hilton stage 3 and she runs great. For that story, if you care, it is here https://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?589581-kTa-s-ARD-story&highlight=ard+story

Picture of the day I started my Volvo ownership

So onto Mule, I will let the pictures do most of the talking:

The driver's seat is hammered, but my friend, who daily's a E63AMG and who has never driven or sat in a Volvo said it was still really comfortable. They confirmed no triangles, all buttons work, records show new 4c, headlights are good, brake pads are low. I was on the phone with them for a half hour at the sale, the guy was probably getting annoyed, I had them check a bunch of things, including PCV and whatnot. They said it also has lots of power, and newer Michelin pilot sport a/s 3+, here are some of their candid shots, including a front yard view from my friends bay area home.

I found it fitting the picture they grabbed on the way home had another Swedish car in it.

Resting spot until I can get down to SF

So the million dollar question, or the 2,800 dollar question, which is what I bought this car for... How did I do on price? I thought it was a decent deal, and given its pretty much optioned out the same way Mulva is, I have lots of parts to use in the future.

Should be an exciting drive home, or a regrettable one, I will keep you updated!

Nice cars that Silver R is worn out like an aging porn star but for $2800 it still gets the job done :)

I agree, it's just going to be my parts/troubleshooting Mulva car. And maybe the block is in good shape and I can build a spare motor.

My friend has been commuting to work in it this week, he says the suspension feels crashy. I'll have to drive it to find out if he's just pampered by the AMG, or if it rides rougher than mine which is refreshed.
He's gonna park it at the airport at the end of the week because he gets free parking there and it's out of the weather.

Made it home okay in this thing, it runs very nicely, almost feel bad about parting it out. The owner was very meticulous on mechanics only, the rest was definitely not a priority in any way shape or form... The Mule has a ton of pep left, I was pretty impressed given all considerations.

Here's some photos from the trip, they all suck, because I have an ASUS phone, and it sucks. Don't buy an ASUS phone.

When I arrived in california my friends took it upon them selves to decorate the car for me because I made the mistake of saying I was NOT a fan boy. Also, you'll see he has three rare oldsmobiles, he IS a fan boy. Also the E63 photo bombed a bit, it's a sweet car, but a 4000.00 brake job, no thanks.

Did you know alaska airlines has 'Sport' seats??

So then we went to rotate the tires since the fronts were a little more worn than the back

But then one tire was not what I expected, and I wasnt going to drive 700 miles on it, so there went 200.00 into a new AS3+

Off to the shop for a tire... Tire shop took 3 effing hours so I called work and stayed in california an extra day.

Took off today at 4am and made it to Reno with no issues!

Then Winnemucca! Stupid receipt in the way.. 22.5 mpg so far

Just outside Idaho, took a pit stop to stretch the legs and found this big thing, about the size of a half dollar

This is why californians come to Idaho, because it can be pretty too, (with a better camera)

Mirror was starting to fall off, more tape to the rescue

Then just a couple photo ops I thought were neat...Since I made it to Idaho I felt better about screwing around and not worrying about the car failing me

Then home to meet the donor recipient, I really do feel a little bad about tearing the Mule apart, but it's what I made the trip for so it must happen... I am also a little annoyed it made it the trip and more than double the mileage on the same AW55 and my car burned through two of them and then I 6-speed swapped it all before 125,000

Wanted to get the tape off before it was impossible and wanted to try and save the flag.

Looks good on the wall, matches the sh!tty garage theme

Now I have this mess, I left it for now but will try wd-40 or goo gone and a micro fiber towel.

Radiator swap, since Mulva's was leaking and the Mule had a basically brand new one.

Transplant in progress:

When people say you have to get the car way up in the air to pull the radiator out the bottom, this is literally all they mean... Basically oil change height:

Make sure you don't let your wife catch you with her brining bucket, this will give the pork roast extra flavor next time around:

I almost bought a 05s60Rm66 a few years ago that was wreaked. It was in the rear. I didn’t have the space. It’s all good. I still have my vR.

Nice work. It’s good to have a donor to have replacement parts. Looks like you’ll be shopping soon for a new container. Just take the R and enjoy the ride. Great excuse to get out with the wife.
