In an attempt to clean up the existing NW GTG thread in the R Forum (four possible events so far), and per Jim Lill's request, let's try using this thread to plan a drive to Mt. Rainier if there is still interest. Although the planning of this event originated in the R Forum, it is open to anyone interested in attending (assuming you can keep up of course)...
The trip from Tacoma to Paradise (Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park) takes approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours and offers wonderful scenery along the way and loads of twisty roads on which the R's can frolic. There are a few decent restaurants in Tacoma and along the route, as well as a number of good picnic spots for those who just emptied their wallets on 100-octane fuel and need to "brown bag" it.
One suggestion is to piggyback this driving event with the 7/22/06 detailing tech session planned for Griot's Garage in Tacoma (details here: http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=60286). The Griot's Garage event is expected to conclude at, or around, 2:00pm. Those who wish to attend both events can do so, while those interested only in exercising their cars can convene near Griott's Garage for a ~2:00pm departure. Even with a few stops and photo-ops along the way we can all expect to be back home in the early evening hours.
Please post your preference for the month of the event below - once we reach a consensus on a month we can discuss specific dates and move on from there with anything else you wish to discuss. A drive from Tacoma to Mt. Rainier would make for a great half-day event. A full-day event could include the Mt. Rainier loop in its entirety, which I have never driven before - I hear it's awesome. Please only use the polling feature if you plan to attend, so we can maintain an accurate head count. I would like to maintain a list of attendees and send out periodic email updates. Please send me an IM if you will attend.
Let's put this drive together - it should be a lot of fun!
- Tryg

Tryg,
The Griot's Garage Tech Session is expected to wrap-up aroung 2pm, but we'll all want to grab a bite to eat afterwards too. So please take that into account.
If this makes the drive too late, you may want to consider another date?

Re: Mt. Rainier Drive and GTG (RainyS60R)

Considering that I completely blanked on the 7/22 Griot's event I guess the next best option is September (sorry to let you down, Leadfoot60). Let's discuss on the 12th.
- Tryg

Re: Mt. Rainier Drive and GTG (KillerB)

October 15th is the date that was tentatively agreed upon. Can't so this date won't change, but chances are it will happen on this date.
- Tryg

Re: Mt. Rainier Drive and GTG (RainyS60R)

I'm looking forward to this Mt Rainier drive.
Does it look like Sat 10/14 or Sunday 10/15 will be better? I'm already planning that far ahead, as fall weekends seem to be filling up almost as quickly as summer weekends did.
See you in a month-
Kevin
