I put my passenger seat all the way forward and un-reclined it a bit to get a large object behind it, and nearly as soon as I started driving, I got a passenger airbag off warning. I put the seat back. I looked and do not see any wires blatantly pulled out. I had the battery disconnected for a while while working on my amp power wire, and it's been over a week. <p>About 4-5 seconds after turning my car on (accessory or engine) the warning lights pop up and says the passenger airbag is disabled. The pass. airbag off light in the overhead console stays on, as does a red idiot light indicating airbag. <p>Is there anything else I should try before taking it to Volvo?

Re: Moved passenger seat all the way forward, had airbag warning since... (mattdoc)

There was a recall or something like that for the warning being faulty. I was told in the case of an accident the airbag would still try to fire. Should be covered by warranty/recall, not sure if there is a trick to get rid of it. Mine did it for a while after I got my car tinted, my indie guy reset it for me. Currently doing it because I disconnected my battery...

I was thinking otherwise about it trying to fire, for legal reasons. If the light says "passenger airbag off" and you put a child there and the airbag kills him, Volvo would not be in a good situation. <p>I could go for some insider info... ForceFed?

Hello <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>Theres a TNN about the OWS picking up faulty vibrations thru the seat rail. Its like a stupid spring you install to cure the problem. Has fixed a few however im thinkin yours isnt related to that. <p>Id unscrew the seat harness remove and re-install it with the key off. Make sure you have a good connection then turn the car on. The SRS system does a test within the first 20 seconds. IF the message continues to come back you may have a faulty SRS component in the seat.<p>EDIT: Whats it do when someone sits in the seat?

Thanks. I am sure I caused it by moving the seat forward. It would be too much of a coincidence otherwise. <p>My first thought was "How am I going to know what to unplug without posting a picture?" My car's in the shop for alignment (just lowered it) so that's out of the question. I then realized I have what EVERYONE should have... An electrical component data sheet. Here's the 2005 S40/V50 <A HREF="http://pliki.mojevolvo.pl/volvotechinfo/tp3978202_s40_v50_2004-_wiring_diagrams_section_3_39.pdf" TARGET="_blank">http://pliki.mojevolvo.pl/volv...9.pdf</A> and there are others for the '04.5 and older, but no newer, on <A HREF="http://mojevolvo.pl/wiki/Volvo_S40" TARGET="_blank">http://mojevolvo.pl/wiki/Volvo_S40</A> - scroll down to Schematy elektryczne Volvotechinfo at the bottom. Don't worry, the PDF is in English.

The S40's have one master connector at the bottom of the seat for all the components that you may or may not have. Its like a 8mm bolt that holds them together. Id just take it out and reinstall to make sure you have a good connection. Might have pulled the harness just a bit however it shouldnt.

Re: (jdsr917)

Should the "airbag off" light stay illuminated when no one is sitting in the passenger seat? For some reason I thought is always did but now mine doesn't. Only for a few seconds on starting.

I had this problem and the dealer fixed it one day when I brought it in. I looked on the receipt and didn't see anything about it. Sadly, about 2 months later, the message came back. I'm going to try to unplug and plug the connector to see if it helps.

Need to know what codes are stored. If its a SRS 0115 and you fall under the chassis break there is a OWS software download that changes the parameters. If there are other codes stored those must be looked at first. I would verify that the hose that connects to the OWS hasnt been kinked or come apart as well. It looks just like a corragated hose.

I'll check/try that stuff tonight. <br>Does the RICA PPC read DTCs? I found PPC's website that says the old PPC does, and they have a good list of them, but RICA makes no mention of it on their site. <br><A HREF="http://www.ppc-diagnostic.com/codes" TARGET="_blank">http://www.ppc-diagnostic.com/codes</A>

A little update: I couldn't figure out how to read the DTCs with my PPC, even though I got it to say "codes stored" at one point. I cleared the code with it, and voila, all fixed! <br>So I don't know which airbag code it was, but it's gone now!

Re: (mattdoc)

Thats good, hopefully it was just an intermittant fault caused by pulling on the connector. If it returns id have it checked out though.

Just got this message today after moving my seat forward to put my new floor mats in. This is the last thing I need <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif" BORDER="0">

All I did was check under the seat for blatantly broken or disconnected wires (there were none) then cleared the code with my PPC. Since you have a 2.4i there's not much point in buying a PPC, but at least the code might be clearable and nothing's really wrong. Maybe a standard OBD-II code reader will clear it if you're lucky.

Re: (mattdoc) You Actually Got the PPC to Clear a Code ?

Must have a New Version , what Number # as My PPC wouldn't Clear and Codes and Now it doesn't - See or Mate Up to, My ECU as It was Replaced.<p>You Would Think that the Cars Vin Number is the Same , so all would be Well . I Guess I should Look into this PPC Matter , I don't Even Know Where to Start .
