Does Volvo recommend the use of Synthetic Oil in their cars, or do they just use regular 'Dino' oil?
I use Amsoil synth in my Grand Cherokee & not just in the crank case. I use their synthetic ATF in the tranny as well as in the transfer case and I even use their axle lube in both axles. Lubricates much better in all temp extremes, resulting in less friction. I'm curious as to what Volvo recomends...
Also, what's the oil change interval recommended by Volvo? I know the maintenance schedule hasn't yet been released for the XC90 but what is it for the S60 or S80?
Thanks.

synthtic oil is actually recommended in the manual if the car is to be used in 'heavy duty' service. The car is shipped from the factory with a synthetic blend (castrol, I think). Oil changes and regular service are set at 7500 mile intervals.
Be careful when using the synthetic in the tranny and be sure the fluid specification matches what the tranny needs--the S80T6 tranny uses different fluid than the 2.9. So be sure and check your owner's manual when you eventually get the car.
