When I was at the dealer today getting the new angle gear installled, I asked their bodyshop people to look at the front bumper cover and give me an estimate for repainting it. While I have a clear "bra" on the front of the hood, it does not cover the "nose" of the car. The estimator looked at it and said, "Have you been in a sand storm?" I replied no, the car is three years old, has only 18000 miles on it and is driven almost exclusively in good weather (maybe 500 of teh 18000 miles). Unfortunatley, living in Wyoming, even if you take a drive on a nice day in the winter, you are goig to be subjected to sand (put on the road during a prior snowstorm) flying up to gouge the beautiful black paint on your trusty steed, revealing the white primer underneath. The nose of my car looks like it has white measels and some chips are showing up on the hood aft of the "bra" and on the leading edge of the roof. I love the color of the paint, but my advice to anyone who lives where they sand the roads in the winter would be to really think hard about getting the black paint. By the way the estimate for repainting the nose was $480.Hood and nose around $1000.Finally, while I was there they unloaded a new XC90 with black paint from the delivery truck. The white plasitc protective front cover (that shrink on kind of stuff) had come loose while in transit and the black paint on the hood was destroyed by the flapping plastic. Service rep said they used to get all their cars delivered in covered trucks, but no more.
