Ok, Does anyone else HATE that gap in between the bottom of the dashboard and the glove box? Mine seems to be almost 1/2 cm. On my 960, it closes solid and fits like a glove. This is just another "American car like" quality defect on the new V70. Is there a fix for it? It actually is the only thing that rattles when I drive in the whole car. When I push up on the glove box, it actually seals up nice, as long as I keep pressure on it.
Another Question
Does anyone know what the two sensors on the front of the Automatic Climate Control and the Stereo do? They look like tiny light sensors, however when I shine a light on them they don't seen to do anthing (like dim my dash). Does this mean that my dash lights are on 24/7 no matter whether it's light or dark? Seems like a waste of bulbs if it is.
Sam

[This message has been edited by V70SAM (edited 10-20-2001).]

On mine, one of the pins fell out resulting in the right side to sag. Pin was replaced on the next service, and has not been a problem since. Perhaps you're having the same problem?

Not sure that's it, cause all the ones I saw in the show room (whether XC or plain jane V70) had the same problem. It seems like there is just too much play in the lock, which doesn't really impress me (compared with my 960 glove box).
I will ask the dealer to look at it however, and mention to look at the pins, as this could be a common problem to them.
Thanks
Open your door sometime in a very quiet place and you'll hear the little fan start up to blow ambient air across the sensor. I'm not sure what other "sensor" you mean. The actual light sensor is up near the alarm LED on the dash just behind the windshield.

Darell, I feel like i've known you for years, as I have read many of your posts with great interest.
Anyway, the sensor I am talking about is just below the three wide buttons with the person on them on the automatic climate control. It is very small and the owner's manual says it is a light sensor for dimming the dash, but when I flash a light into it nothing dims. What gives?
Thanks,
Sam

Hi Sam, old buddy -
Well, as you know, I don't have a V70 any more, so I can't run out and look. I'm just going by memory here. I read my manual cover-to-cover several times, and I never ran across a mention of a light sensor down by the climate control. That isn't to say your manual is the same as mine...there have been at least a few different versions of the owner's manual for these cars.
Here's a shot of my console. I don't see the "sensor" you mention at all (nothing below the buttons). Unless it's that little tiny dot of something. Hmm. The air intake I'm talking about is just to the right of the auto (climate control) button, so that must be totally different from what you're asking about. No clue here.

This is the sensor. If you still have the dealer brochure, they have a great close up of it. I'm sure some where on the net there is a good close up of the radio/climate control, it will show it clear as mud.
Anyway, I managed to figure it out. A well informed member of Volvospy knew that there was infact a delay for the dim function. So I went into a dark garage and turned on the ignition, then flashed light into the sensor, and a few seconds later, the radio display and the dash readouts all dimmed (albiet just a bit). I am a little disappointed as I expected this to dim the who dash, to extend the life of the backlight bulbs. Oh well.
So Darell, common, why don't you go out and just get another V70? Im sure the bugs in your car were just related to it being one of the first of a totally new design off the assembly line. The new 4wd V70 is my dream, I wish I had waited to buy till '02.
Sam
PS Check out my post on the general discussion board. I want your take on this as you reside in the PRD (People Republic of Davis).
