Well today was an absolute blast. I was hanging out at the K-Pax racing paddock before the race checking out cars #1 and #8, and was talking with a guy who was very cool and knowledgable about the car. Turns out it was Andy Pilgrim, the driver of car #8.

Was honored to see that K-Pax uses an R Kelly CAI type system as their sole intake...

These built in air pressure activated jack stands are just too cool...

Randy Pobst, the driver of car #1 actually took second place today,

he was battling with an orange Porsche for second place, and on the final lap, got a little aggressive and caused the Porsche to spin off the track right in front of us...

Down toward the end of the race, in the last couple laps, it was me and Tony running second and third. Especially on the last lap, I think the Volvo and the all-wheel-drive was helping me out because my car was not falling off as bad as his and I started getting a nose on him everywhere.
After hounding Rivera for five laps, Pobst made his move on the final tour of the 11-turn, 2.238-mile course. While the move in Turn Four gave Pobst the spot, it sent River spinning into the gravel, where his race would end.
"I just timed it wrong and I turned him around in Turn Four," confessed Pobst. "Man, I just hate that because I'm always the one preaching not to do that to other people! It's funny because that happened to me two years ago. And being back here at Laguna brought it all back for me and I'm still angry about that and then there I go and do it to somebody else. I'm gonna have to sleep on that and try to figure out what it all means. Anyhow, I apologize to Tony Rivera for my mistake in turning him around."
Andy Pilgrim finished in 5th

Wheels/tires are just amazing. 18x10"? They figured out a system that works and it was nice to have a car that moved when I let out the clutch."
WHAT SYSTEM IS THIS THAT ELIMINATES BOG? Seriously, anyone know someone from K-Pax racing that could ask?
At any rate, enjoy the pics. It was great meeting up with michaelc, wish more of the NorCal folks could have made it. There were parking areas for Porsches, Corvettes and BMW clubs, maybe next year there can be a Volvo area?

Was definitely worth the trip out...K-Pax has made a couple gorgeous Volvos. They were by far the quietest cars on the track (obviously with the smallest engines). Living up to the sleeper reputation, even on the track. Couple more shots...the flared carbon fiber body pieces make the cars look tough. If I remember right, you could order them through K-Pax (remembering from a previous thread)...

Nice meeting you, Kelly.

Re: Monterey Sports Car Championships at Laguna Seca 11 Oct 2009 (michaelc)

I was out there on Fri & Sat, watching the qualifying and part of the ALMS race. I wish I could have been there all weekend but had to get back. I saw a couple of R's while I was there, all around great weekend of cars and racing. Can't wait until May!

Nice! I wonder what type of AWD system they are using to get all that hp to the tires.
I want that...

Good coverage! Thanks for sharing.
It is great to see that they had a weekend without too many drive train issues. I know they have had some problems with the Weisman sequentials, and have different gear sets made by another supplier.
What is the status of the third car? Will it be "just" a spare, or are they going to field it?
Did you happen to catch the GT-2 finish? Good Porsche/Corvette (Bergmeister vs. Magnussen) battle that unfortunately ended with the Corvette taking a hard hit in the wall. Of course it was also great for DeFarren to win his farewell race!

Someone take down the pictures before VCNA black flags them and their warranty is voided.

Which may also contribute to their quieter note, but not necessarily.
Original 3" non-muffled Svenske exhausts are louder than the K-Pax cars.
