Well, last week my dad and I went to check out a 97 964 we found on AutoTrader. The dealer was asking just under $10k on the net, and around 13k if you came in person. He said he did that only because it's the only way to get people who see the car on the net to come check it out. Which worked for us. As the title says its a 97 964 with 73k. It's a VERY solid car. Loads of leg room, plenty of options, if not all, but the 960's were basically fully loaded. My dad want's to get one instead of a new Mini.
We only ended up paying $8500 after taxes and everything else with the trade of my mom's 91 945 w/ 184k. Not bad considering my mom and sister were the ones who talked to the dealer. My dad wasn't too nice with the used car rep when we were shown the 13k price and we knew it as 10k. My mom said she just kept saying "All I have is $8500" and it worked. It's 11pm right now so it's worthless to take the car out, but I'll snap some pics and post them below.
EDIT: bad grammar

Re: Mom's "new" 1997 964, 73k. (psycho-)

I wish I had a spare car and $$ to do an engine swap, but this car is awesome. My dad is extactic about it. He was grinning when he went to AutoZone to pick up a lightbulb and the guy at the counter said "960? Top of the line eh?". The dealer gave us a bulb too but my dad bought one incase the other lamp goes out. My mom says the dealer gave her about $1000 of credit for the old wagon. Thats more than what I think we could have sold it for, plus, I dunno if the dealer will even get that when he takes it to auction.

Very nice color! Don't see too many 960's in that color.

Congrats and welcome to the club, here is a pic of mines:

Drew, your car is absolutely spotless! Nice, very nice! http://********************/smile/emlove.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
Does the 960 ever get that oil stain coming out the oil cap? 850s seem to, I've tried steel wool, WD-40 & Gunk degresser to try to remove that stuff, yours looks like it has never burned a drop.

I understand if Drew sits in his Volvo all day. Thats what you ment by living room right? Because if you put on a good cd, it feels the same as if you were sitting inside your house listening to some good music on your stereo system. The car is sooo nice.
As for the color, it looks really nice. Nothing major. Just a small indentation on the trunk by the tail light. Its a small circle about the size of a half dollar. But the car is just wonderful. I hope our engine bay is as clean as yours. It seems like it, but with the dark paint, you can't tell too well. It's such a wonderful car!

omega6,

If you ever want to get that dent removed, Dent Doctors do an amazing job under $100. Aren't the seats & stereo system awesome? http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Johann, Spearzy, extreme,

Yes, it is an actual working car, LOL! It has about 84,000 miles on it. It is actually that clean right now sitting in the garage, except for the front wheels are covered in brake-dust, so it looks like I have anthracite-looking front wheels.

It doesn't burn a drop of oil, and there is no oil around the cap, I have been using Castrol GT-X, non-synthetic, works superb IMHO.

Finally, the key to keeping the engine so clean is to never drive on unpaved/dirt roads and touching-up the engine bay up everytime the car is washed. It keeps things from building up.

Did you steam clean it?
I always have a fear of getting water inside the engine bay (although obviously water gets into it often enough http://********************/smile/emsmile.gif
Nope, I don't want to screw up any of the electrical components. IMHO, it is not worth going that far cleaning the engine bay, just for looks. I have heard enough horror stories about steam cleaning and engine washing that I don't want to mess with it.
