Hi folks,

A friend has gone missing in northern MN on May 3 and he was driving his beloved red 1964 122s (her name is Sarah). Neither his bank account nor credit cards have been accessed since then and we are wondering how far he may have been able to drive if Sarah had been completely fueled up (she still had her original tank). Any ideas (even a ballpark figure)? Having a better idea of possible mileage would help narrow the search area immensely.

The missing persons flyer with a picture of Sarah are linked here. More photos of the old girl are here.

Many thanks for any assistance.

Welcome to Swedespeed, Holly.

If Sarah started with a full tank and ran 'til empty something under 13 gallons would have been consumed.

If Sarah has no overdrive on the transmission but is a 4-speed manual expect about 22mpg max highway steady speeds and no AC. Overdrive about 28mpg max. Automatic transmission - less than 20mpg.

Assuming 22mpg and 12 gallons used we get 264 miles from Virginia, MN.

Looking at the google map...

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=V..._PUjE8awxk12VZpQ&oq=casselton+&mra=ls&t=m&z=6

...this could get Andrew to downtown Casselton, ND or similar locations at about 264 miles like Rhinelander, WI assuming he did not enter Canada.

Please keep us updated on this plus share any other details/clues.

Thanks.

Thank you so much, George. This is very helpful and I will certainly update when I hear any news. People in MN were wondering if he could have made it to Canada, since there are some unmanned crossings there.

On a lighter note, I certainly appreciate the mileage Vulgrin, my 2001 S60 T4, gets compared old Sarah.
