So many of you fellow R owner here at Swedespeed have said the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is THE tire for the R and WOW is that the truth.
I did around 300Km on the OEM 18" P-Zero Rosso's and right away I noticed the harsh, skittish, hopping back-end. It was so bad in Sport and Advanced that I just kept it in Comfort mode. After all the reading here about the problem I thought that maybe it was all in my head and that I was making a mountain out of a mole hill. Afterall, I'm still driving it easy and not nearly testing the limits. Well, this was certainly was NOT just in my head...
This morning I drove to my local dealer with the Rosso's still on and [quoting myself from another posting] "When I came in with the PS2's this morning the service manager had a look somewhere between this , this and this " He doens't get why I want to make changes to my R.
With the newly installed PS2's I drove home using my usual route (50% stop-and-go freeway and 50% highspeed open freeway with some big sweeping on/off ramps). I could not believe how significant and dramatic the improvement is! I still cannot believe the difference these tires make. My R is a totally new car with the PS2's on. I kept it in Advanced the whole way home. It's now a much more stable ride and I don't get the feeling that my butt was floating and bouncing all over the place like it was with the Rosso's. If only I could convince the service manager of the dramative improvement maybe we'd have a case to have Volvo cover the replacement tires under the adjustment period (looooooog shot!) ATTENTION VOLVO: YOU ARE LOOSING CUSTOMERS BECAUSE OF THE P-ZERO ROSSO's.
Before I brought it in today I was feeling a bit of buyer's remourse. Who in their right mind takes brand new Pirelli's off their brand new car and spends money and time to replace them. I was worried that I wasted my money and should have put it into some other upgrade with more bang for the buck. Those feeling vanished in less than 10 minutes of driving.
I highly recommned these tires to all fellow S60R owners (and V70R as per others' experiences). At the worst case this upgrade will have cost me $900CDN (~$750USD, that's after getting a good wholesale trade-in price at a tire-resller). If I sell them privately this upgrade will only have cost me around $600CDN (~$500USD). Ironically, there's a good chance my local Volvo Master tech (a fellow S60R owner) will buy them from me (he likes to keep his bone stock). If only he knew what the PS2's would do for him!
For the nay-sayers: Yes, these are expensive and there are some nice alrenative brands that work well too. However, I'm a diehard Michelin man and I beleive in this brand.
Have a look at these beauties:

I would like to thank JRL and R Salesman for their excellent advice and recommodation for PS2's. You both said PS2's go a long way at improving the R's back-end hopping problem and you were correct.
Thank you R Kelly for pointing out the importance of the 95Y 'extra load' rating.
I would also like to thank Oscar at the Tire Rack for overseeing my order (switching my shipping to FedEx saved me a few bucks, thanks). I highly recommend the Tire Rack to fellow Canadians, you will save A TON of money on tires, I could not find them locallay at a price any where near what Tire Rack has them for, especially on the PS2's (including shipping, GST, PST, Duty, FedEx border fees, etc. I save over $110CDN/tire).
Today was a veRy good day!
LTA

Re: Michelin PS2 tires are on - it's a TOTALLY new car! Thank you Swedespeed memebers. (LTA)

The only trouble is that they hop in COMFORT, NOT in advanced and rarely in sport

The PS2's are indeed a revelation. They do pick up a little bit of tramlining as they wear down -- it's the car, not the tires -- but nothing, *nothing* compared to the Rossos.
I too was hating the R and questioning why I bought it before the Michelin's. What a difference; night and day.

I just had the PS2s installed the other night. BIG difference. Anyway, they do hop in comfort as JRL stated, but are much better in sport than those Italian sneakers...

JRl,
I know what you mean. I am up to about 15-20K on my PS2s and I have noticed that they are starting to hop some from the wheels and tires. I am completely satisfied with my purchase vs the Pirellis but I don't want to be buying $1000 in tires every 25K miles or so. How many miles did you notice them hopping?

When does the "hopping" usually start? I have not noticed it at all, but my R only has about 7500 miles on it.

Re: (C130)

Often it happens when one side on the rear axle runs in to a bump. It gives the rear a swing motion which feels very insecure.

Wander is a generous word to say the least.
It looks like you can buy 235/45/17's but with a 94 load rating.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...t+PS2

Re: Michelin PS2 tires are on - it's a TOTALLY new car! Thank you Swedespeed memebers. (LTA)

After having blown up my rear Pirelli 4 days ago, i got my 4 PS2 on today for 900€ and I can confirm what was previously mentioned. I used my preferred "street racing track" (Hausstrecke in German) with a lot of turns and up and down.
I like to drive in Advanced now (nobody found a trick to block it in Advanced yet?) and I have less rear hopping in all tree modes. What impresses most is the stickiness to the road much less sliding specially less under-steering.
Absoluteliy fantastic I am longing for the Ring now. With the Eibach lowering this must be a big trill.
