So what do you guys think of this?

quote:
The new Marauder, based on the Mercury Grand Marquis sedan, will deliver more than 300 horsepower and 300 pounds-feet of torque through a 4.6-liter, dual-overhead-cam V8 engine. Key features include a performance suspension, leather-trimmed cabin and monochromatic exterior. Bright alloy 18-inch wheels feature center caps embossed with the winged Mercury god's head logo. A four-speed automatic transmission features a limited-slip differential to aid traction under hard acceleration. Mercury officials tout the Marauder, set to arrive in showrooms next summer as a 2003 model, as a true five-passenger performance sedan Mercury will build about 10,000 Marauders in its first model year.

[This message has been edited by DrewSRX (edited 02-09-2001).]

I think that it is a very sweet car indeed! If I were a cop, I would want this car for sure. I think that it would look cool with tinted windows and a light on the a-pillar to scare other drivers on the road.
-Drew (a.k.a.) Not bad as far as specs. go, but it still looks like an old-person's car. (IMHO) Now, paint it brigt red and trick it out some and maybe then you'd have something.
Prospero

I can agree with Drew. This baby would make a great car for police or state troopers ... Let's not give them any suggestions, though.
-'kage

While this car certainly exudes a certain senior flavor, it's definitely an example of something that American carmakers can execute with much success: the large, powerful RWD sedan. Unfortunately, this car is part of a dying breed. I thought the old Impala SS was a wonderful machine, and was sad to see it go. There should definitely be a niche that this vehicle will satisfy, possibly the one that the Impala SS left vacant.

Why oh why can't Cadillac get on the ball and make a RWD platform STS!?!
This is the only viable American sedan platform that I would consider buying

From what I've heard, the STS, SLS, and El Dorado variants will all be on a RWD platform for the next generation. However, the Catera may become FWD if it remains based on the Opel Omega. AFAIK, the Omega is going to FWD for the next generation. The Catera handles pretty well for the tub of lard it is, but would do better with 50-100 more horsepower and a diet.
