Ok. I've been searching both swedespeed and Mazda3 forums till my eye's have bled. Has ANYONE swapped struts (not springs) between Mazda3's and S40/V50???
About to make a rather large purchase and would like to make absolutely sure they are interchangeable.
TIA.
Reid

Re: Mazda Struts/suspension (BtownVolvo)

Someone (genjy?) was really looking into the mazda3 stuff, I don't know what they ended up finding out. I think for the FWD guys there is a chance the mazda3 stuff will work, but for us AWD not a chance. But on a happy note, my coilovers arrived today. Anyone wanna come install them for me?

Short answer. No.
For rear camber bite the bullet and get the SPC arms. They're kinda pricey, but once you see them in person and compare it to stock you understand why.
This will give you some idea of how beefy they are:

I doubt you will get any lowering effect from a Mazda 3 lowering spring. I put in the MS3 rear springs in my car and it sat almost an inch higher then stock (AWD height). The front will sit about the same height with the stock MS3 springs. To get the car lower you will probably need a Volvo lowering spring and the Mazda struts.

Re: (Kallvin22)

Those look like stock cut springs that have been painted green, and judging by the price i wouldnt doubt it lol. I know everyone is trying to find the cheapest parts but when it comes to suspension these are components that have to be tuned per the vehicle and arent generic.
The mazda 3 is 300lbs lighter so that could sag a set of springs a bit if installed on the volvo. Things to consider.

Re: (ForceFed Motorsports)

yay my new springs are swappable if I don't like the ride and only cost like 80 bucks /pair. On top of that, they have a lifetime warranty.
Time to make the jump guys and roll with the big boys.

Here are some pictures of the MS3 vs S40.
Springs (MS3, S40 stock, S40 Eibach)

Struts (top S40 stock, bottom MS3)

If you put the Mazda lowering spring in our cars it will probably ride at stock height (maybe a bit lower) and the springs will most likely be softer. The Mazda is lighter and the ride is a bit softer then the early S40s. The spring rate is completely different.
