I am installing a Dawes Devices Manual Boost Controller on my 1997 850 T-5 Next week and I want to know how much boost to run. I have only a K&N Air Filter, Removed MAF Screen & Relocated Front Horns. Will I be able to run 14psi of boost or should I try 13psi or even maybe 12psi? Any help is appreciated

Not really sure what you should run but will share the numbers my gauge recalls. I have a SPA design gauge with peak recall. It often shows 18-21 peak. I have an IPD ECU and exhaust and the wastegate rod adjustment.

At first I thought the high numbers were due to accasionally running octane booster but that does not seem to affect it. It does not hold these high numbers but simply hits them for a second.

It seems to hold 13-16

My boost guage does the same. In first gear it steadies on 15.5. After the shift into 2nd it hits 20/21 and stays there. At third it hits 17 and fades to about 15.5. I have a boost controller but havent instaled it yet because I am hesitant about the 2nd gear boost. I would hate to overboost and detonate in 2nd gear. I know all the other gears would love it.

Another question I have is what vacuuam is you guage showing at idle. I am reading about 18 lbs? of vaccuam at idle. Is that normal?

That seems about right...I have an autometer boost gauge installed...

I run about 14 psi with 17 psi spikes (fairly stock 850)

I did have some problems with the controller..(it disconnected) and i hit over 22 psi...the car....did not like that.....over boost......misfires.... check engine light....

I want to get a boost controller, but now Im getting scarred. care to elaborate on that last comment, I mean I assume the engine protects itslelf well, but still, how did it disconnect. Also, how does a boost controller bypass the chips control, if the chip limits the max boost, I assume this, then how does a boos controller allow more boost than the max that the ecu allows. Please clear up my confusion. If not I will be forced to add a new topic, HEHE!
