So, issues with my manual transmission which I won't get into (and which have been made worse by me...), but, anyway...
The pathetic dealer out here doesn't carry Volvo manual transmission fluid and I've done a ton load of searching around and the consensus seemed to be to use Red Line MTF. As it would turn out, no one carries that stuff out here... Otherwise, I'm seeing Mobil 1 5w30 motor oil or maybe some other 70w80 gear oil if I can find it or even "Type F" ATF, but nothing particularly definitive...
Anyone know anything for sure and why it would be the case?
Many thanks!

Not needed or necessary
I've tried this, they shift EXACTLY the same way with Volvo fluid or with (in this case) Redline fluid
(and have you ever heard of ordering whatever you need(which is nothing in this case), just leave the fluid in there, this is not like an automatic trans

Amsoil usually only takes a day or two.JB weld didn't work huh cheaper to fix it then keep refilling with expensive fluid as in a year all those fluid cost could be put towards the new trans.

So, I've got this weekend, really, and maybe a few evenings (if the weather cooperates).

Quote »

JB weld didn't work huh cheaper to fix it then keep refilling with expensive fluid as in a year all those fluid cost could be put towards the new trans.

Not sure... Seems that the fluid was mixing with the JB Weld (it was dripping slowly when I applied it), and, now that it has dried, it still has a path through to leak out. I'm going to try draining it and using some JB Weld STIK which is supposed to be able to be applied even in wet conditions. Crossing my fingers... Regardless, I'm probably down a liter of fluid by now...

And apparently people use 5w30 Mobil 1 (engine oil?).
Is there anything wrong with Amsoil?

M66 trans in the R uses 75w90 oil you sure your 5 speed only uses 5w30 that seems kinda fishy and too light for trans gear oil.If it was simply 5w30 I don't understand why the dealership didn't have it since it's the recommended weight engine oil

Alright, thanks.
They want $8 for normal shipping and some indeterminate amount for 2nd day... Seems there's a dealer nearby, so I'll give 'em a call tomorrow. Hopefully they've got the stuff!
And, yeah: Amsoil's stuff is 5w30. Only issue (from what I understand) with using engine oil is it has a different additives package. (Detergents and whatnot.)

If you check out Red Line's MTL oil it's a 70w80 gear oil which they say is equivalent to 5w30/10w30 engine oil.

You can save a little money by going to the Amsoil web site and paying the $10 trial six month membership fee it will usually save you about 25% of the retail price.

You can use BMW manual transmission fluid. That's what I have in mine. It made the shifting easier. Sorry, I don't have a part #.

Im using the redline product, it seems like OEM, it shifts a little smoother but I didn't notice much difference
it takes 2.1 qts, so order three bottles
I think you can get Redline at autozone... Not sure check online
