yes I have it as well...it's the driveshaft locking into gear or someting like that. The shop foremen told me. It's common. You can ask the dealership to "adjust" and it will cost ya 240. Not worth it and they said it was safe and nothing wrong with it. Get used to the noise is my advice . It is not covered under warranty.

Yeah the clicking or creeking noise is most common going into 1st, 2nd and reverse. I hate it because it's so loud and makes the car sound cheap or broken =(. But I can't justify paying 240 for them to take it out and lubricate it. I with there is someway to do it yourself. Maybe I can trying spraying WD 40 randomly in the engine compartment lol.

Did they lube your axle splines or glue them lol
The correction for the S60R axle click when shifting was corrected by gluing the splines which makes them a complete bitch to ever remove in the future

Well the shop foremen told me he will have to remove the drivetrain out of the car and lubricate it. That's a lot of work, time and money.

Re: (Vash13)

I actually believe the sound is culprit of the left engine mount needing replacement. I have this sound along with a squeaky clutch pedal and found the actual TNN on swedespeed a long time ago.
Below is a word document with some of the noises/vibrations i believe the one talked about here is number 3 on the word document. If it was in a TNN I don't understand why this wouldn't be under warranty but I am going to show this sheet to my dealer for sure.
TNN
For those who can not open the link:

Quote, originally posted by TNN »

S40 & V50 customers may complain of a clunking noise during shifting or when applying and releasing the accelerator pedal. It is especially noticeable on cars with manual transmissions during low speed driving when making a 1-2 shift. If the root cause cannot be found via normal fault tracing, the left side rubber engine mount should be replaced with a hydraulic mount.

Hope this helps!

Re: (PasS40ion)

lll have to check that TNN tomoro because in most cases these complaints are corrected by the later model S40's and already have the updated parts they list as needing replaced.
The squeaky clutch pedal is usually do to the pedal spring that pops out of place and needs to be put back in. Done a few. Pain in the ass without the volvo spring compressor tool (no joke we have one for a spring thats about an inch long lol).

Here is the document (Look at number 3):
NO: 40-05
DATE: 1-2-2007
MODEL: All New S40 / All New C70 / V50
YEAR: 2004.5 -
SUBJECT: Noise / Vibration / Harshness Improvements (NVH)
a. This six-page bulletin deals with four separate NVH issues - one of which is:
b. "1. Squeaking Noise from Clutch Pedal:
c. To address a customer complaint of squeaking noise when depressing/releasing the clutch pedal, replace the over-center spring. The new spring was introduced in production at chassis number: S40 272053-, V50 286837-, C70 012036-."

Forcefed, it seems the older springs were replaced with newer model springs which are more reliable and less prone to squeak or come out of place, the TNN number is posted above for that problem and the clunking noise I'm sure we would all be grateful if you could check on these items for us.

I don't think it's possible to get it covered under warranty. There is no such recall. If your service advisor was family or very close then maybe.

Re: (Vash13)

If your car is under warranty then thats what the TNN or tech journals as they call them now are for, assisting in diagnosing problems. It should be covered no problem, thus why they supply flat rate times with each one.
So heres the scoop:
TNN 40-05 supercedes to Tech journal 16762
Vehicles affected:
S40 2004- chassis -190213
V50 2005- chassis -194445
Clunking when shifting mostly in 1st and 2nd gets a LH engine mount, mainly for manual transmission cars:
M56: 30778930
AW55: 30778931
M66: 30778932
Labor time is 1.4 hours under warranty.
Ill have to check my chassis number as well since i should get this covered if applicable prior to my warranty expiring lol.
