Re: MAJOR MYSTERIOUS TRANNY PROBLEM (Ishtta)

Ishtta -- What you're failing to consider is that if the repair is "free", the dealer is getting paid by the manufacturer for the repair. Needless to say, they're making far more money on replacing a transmission than they would on replacing an extremely common failure point like the PNP switch. So it's in the dealer's best interest to selfishly misdiagnose the failure point as a big-ticket item like the tranny. On top of it all, they may even get to keep that "bad tranny," possibly to resell it to a paying customer some day.
After seeing such misdiagnosies by my local dealer, I'm no longer trusting of anything that the dealer service department says. Also consider the potential (likelihood?) that the replacement, possibly-rebuilt part will not be installed and adjusted as well as the original one was from the factory, and I'd be doing everything that I could to assure that the simple, inexpensive repairs were tried first.
Milkman11978 -- do yourself a favor and look into a PNP switch replacement. See here for some more information: http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/pnpswitch.php
