so I bought this S60R used. The previous owner bragged about having all of the service done at the volvo dealership here. So I go over there and ask if I can get the service history (I own the car now and it is in my possession). They said they couldn't because of privacy policy. WTF? It is my car now....I'm not wanting to know whether the previous owner ordered coffee while in the waiting area, I'm wanting to know if the car currently has synthetic in it or not.
Is this BS or a legitimate argument? If the service wasn't maintained on the car that is my problem now, knowing the service history shouldn't expose the previous owner to any liability.

When I bought my V70, I ran by Keystone Volvo to get a spare key and while I was there they updated their records to my name and were kind enough to provide a few years of history with the previous owners information redacted from the tickets. No big deal. The problem is you have a prick for a service advisor! Find another service dept.
Keystone also programmed a remote for my 98 for 1/4 hour labor. My local guys wouldnt touch it because I didnt buy a new Volvo remote from them. Needless to say, I do not use the local guys for anything anymore.

we have another dealer in town, and I could go to them. However, I don't think they would have the service history unless it is all submitted up centrally to Volvo.

Share the VIN and we will search for any "bad" history.
George Dill

Same thing with my car at Keystone Doylestown... Bought it basically from the owner. Was at the dealer getting a second key and asked about a service record. Said they couldn't 'cause it had the previous owner's information on it...

Re: (StarmanDXE)

I guess the Berwyn guys were just more customer oriented or had spare time to kill. They were extremely helpful and just marked out ther personal stuff. it's just like mechanics, restaraunts, roofers, and surgeons.....a crapshoot sometimes!
