What are some of the maintenance costs for the 2006 S40 T5? Oil changes... scheduled maintenace(what is involved in scheduled maintenance)?
Compared to a domestic(USA) vehicle, how much more $$$ is it for upkeep? Think I read on here that windshield wipers were $40. Any truth to this.
Thanks for any replies. I am just ignorant when dealing with Euro vehicles.

Re: Maintenance costs? (Widgeonus)

I guess Volvo really did do away with the four free scheduled maintenance. The 2006 gets the first one free.
http://www.volvocars.us/VolvoO...nance/
Just noticed the 2006 can upgrade to four scheduled maintenance for $910! That average to $300 per service. I'm going to do my own when the free stuff runs out.
http://www.volvocars.us/VolvoO...s.htm
I have scheduled mtc included and so far includes oil changes every 7500 miles, change the cabin filter at 15 and 30000 miles, and a car wash. I'm not sure what else they have done, if anything, but you can check the mtc schedule in the owner's manual. If you're not an owner, you can view it online at volvocars.us

A set of OEM blades is about $40, give or take.
If you are inclined, there are instructions for doing oil changes posted here in this forum. You'll need to buy the filters and aluminum crush washer (not yet available from parts stores I don't think), plus oil plus your time and perhaps agravation getting to the filter.
I don't think you can take the car to the local quick lube, yet.
You could easily verify dealer charges by calling the service dept or asking your sales rep.

A clutch job will run you $2200. The labor will kill you. Unless your brave enough to do it on your own.

I paid $40 for wiper blades LIKE A FOOL!! You can buy the same damn thing at the store for cheaper. Same with everything else. Get your tires blanaced and rotated somewhere else. If you have a Discount Tire company near you immediately buy a warranty for your four tires. You tires will have and unlimited balance and rotate and free repairs and free replacements if you have a flat or blowout. Its worth it!

Sure, I probably could have saved a few dollars elsewhere, but it was worth the extra $10 or $15 to not have to take my car two places and wait around twice. Not everything is worth skipping the dealer for.

This was posted in the FWD General forum the other day:
Edmunds recently rated the 2006 V50 second, and the S40 third in overall total cost of ownership: http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/top10/109585/article.html.
Lots more Volvos in the top 10, too.
Tom.

The Edmund's link shows that Volvo is one of the cheaper luxury cars to maintain.
But compared to a domestic vehicle it's going to be more expensive to run.
The maintenance chart doesn't include an interval for tire rotation but I've used 7500 miles on all of my previous cars.
It seems to me each dealer does their own thing and sets their own level of service outside of the recommended service. I'm pretty happy with my dealer experience to date but we'll see how I feel when the car is out of "free" service period.
With regard to the wiper blades - shop around. I couldn't find them in any store so I ended up buying them from John at Boston Volvo and I was very happy with that process. Once these are easy to find aftermarket, Volvo dealers will NEVER get to install a new set of wipers. It was the easiest wiper replacement I've ever done.

I bought a set of tires for my Jeep from the Tire Rack online, had them mounted and balanced at Discount Tire and bought the lifetime guaranty for about $30 per tire. Discount Tire takes care of everything just as if I had bought the tires there!

Re: Maintenance costs? (V50_T5)

YES DISCOUNT TIRE IS THE BEST!! I have been using them since I was 16..im only 23 now but still they are gret!! They will warranty any new tires. This means they will fix any nail...rotate and balance anytime you want it done...and also replace a flat or blow out with a new tire at a cost of about $20. ITS CHEAP AND DEF WORTH IT.
