I was checking the oil on my S60R the other day and I noticed there is a sticker on the right side near the engine that says something to the effect of made in Belgium. Is this true? Or are certain parts made in Belgium, or are only certain models made in Sweden and others elsewhere? One of my co-workers also mentioned a while ago that he had heard that Volvos, or at least some of them, were made in Belgium. Why would we be "picking up" our V70R in Gothenburg if it was really made in Belgium?

Volvo Cars has three different assembly plants. One in Gothenburg, Sweden, one in Ghent, Belgium and one in Uddevalla, Sweden.<p>Gothenburg builds XC90, XC70, S80 and V70<br>Ghent builds S60, V70, S40, V50 and all R models<br>Uddevalla builds C70<p>Why you would pick up your car in Sweden, well. That´s where Volvo´s headquarters are and that´s the place everything started at. <br>But I´m pretty sure you can choose to pick up your car in Belgium.

If you want to be sure, check the 11th digit of your VIN. If it is "1" then your car is a purebred Swede. Furthermore...the Factory Delivery Center at Torslanda, was built and designed as a facility for the Overseas Delivery customers throughout the world to use. It is close to the plant (for tours) and close to the corp. dining area (for the free lunch!). It just makes sense to use Torslanda as the FDC.<br>BTW.....As it is currently set up...there are no provisions for a Ghent, Belgium delivery. You can take delivery at a designated delivery location (of which there are 11 across Europe). However, most OSD'ers prefer the FDC in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Bob's right, there's no option for factory delivery in Belgium, but Volvo's Belgian headquarters in Brussels delivers 40-50 cars per year in the OSD program. That's where we picked up my wife's S80. You actually go to the office for the paperwork portion and then are driven to a nearby dealer to pick up your car.<p>Hadn't thought of the extra motion and cost required for a Belgian-assembled car to be picked up in Gothenburg and then potentially be shipped to the USA from some other drop-off city, but it's probably a drop in the bucket for Volvo.

My 91 744 was built in Ghent to USA SPEC. And it is a true VOLVO. Nothing really different. In some ways mine is better as it has a few weird things about it. Mostly items that showed up in later 7seris and 9seris cars here. That makes for parts replacement fun to research at times. The Driving lights are from 940/960 flush under the bumper(not the boxy old style BOSCH) seris. And not the common next to the headlights/grille ones. And the Coil placement and style for the IGN is from a newer USA design year. As well as the dash being 940/960 seris. Sound system speakers also are in different then normal places for a 91 744. Again more like the 940/960.
