Hey, all....new to the forum here. I am looking at a used '05 R 6spd at my local dealer.....What are some things I should look for?? Known problem area's?? I took it for a test drive and at low speeds when engaging and dis-engaging the cluth I can hear a clicking sound comming from the front driver side wheel area.....is the axle shot?? Other than that, the car is simply amazing to drive, like night and day between comfort and advanced....I love it!!! Anymore input will be greatly appreciated.

Axle ping, known problem.
Fixed with Locktite (really), sometimes works, sometimes not.
Usually has to be redone every 5 to 15K miles, warranty deal

Re: LTB '05 S60 R (JRL)

Wow, this forum is incredible....that was the fastest reply I have ever gotten....The car has just over 19k miles (about 19,160mi)...I mentioned it to the sales man (personal friend) and they said that when I get it, they will look closely into it and fix it...Other than that 1 known problem I already found, are there any other things I should look at?

Re: LTB '05 S60 R (JRL)

Just to chime in...I've had my R for over a year and 15K miles. I've had no problems other than the axle ping issue which was repaired at 5K and haven't had anything else. The car has been very reliable so far.
One thing I'm happy I did was I extended the factory warranty (from day one) to 7 yr/100K miles. I paid (if I recall correctly) about 1900 for that.

Re: LTB '05 S60 R (paul_da_programmer)

Is there any type of "new car" warranty that will come with the car when I buy it?? My last vehicle I bought had 30k miles when I got it, and was still under "new car" until 36k miles......Does the Volvo have something like this as well?? Or will I have to purchase a separate warranty?

All Volvos come with a 4 year, 50K mile new car warranty. Bumper-to-bumper, with the exception of wear and tear items.
And, of course, you could always just buy my car:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=58147

I would recommend that you have the oil changed to full synthetic if it has been done already.

Re: LTB '05 S60 R (MagoonR)

Mag (or anyone else as well)- Is there somewhere that has a list of what gets done at the scheduled service's?? I am very mechanically inclined, and was wondering what is done, I can prob. do it all myself, but would prob. just have the dealer do it, since it will be free anyways.

Re: LTB '05 S60 R (MagoonR)

Mag- If he can that would be the best thing I have heard in a long time! Maybe my local dealer could "aquire" it from his dealer....ship it up here for me.....and I could then purchase it.

Take it to Carmax . . . they'll give you a written cash offer in about 30 minutes. At least then you'll know the "worst-case scenario" amount of money you can get for your current car.
If you can come to my dealership, I can appraise your vehicle and get cash offers from several wholesalers. You can take the highest bid, whether that be one of my wholesalers or Carmax.
Feel free to contact me off-forum if you have any further questions. Just because you have a trade doesn't mean you can't get my car.
I had a guy drive all the way up from Columbia, SC to look at my car today (it's about an hour and a half drive to Charlotte) because he's been looking high and low for a car like mine. So he shows up, we crank up the car, and it's too loud for him. So I inform him that I've still got the stock cat-back, and that I can install it in about 30 minutes and it will take the exhaust sound back down to stock levels. He says, nah, the car's too loud. "Yeah, but it WON'T be when I PUT THE STOCK CAT-BACK ON!!!."
Point is . . . 1 not so nice guy down, who knows how many to go, and I want to get my car sold. My wife and I are really trying to get our debt minimized, and this would be a big help.

When they fix the axle, make sure that the change the seal, not just apply locktite. Also, you may want to make sure that the angle gear is in good condition.

the remainder of the factory warranty will be carried over to you.
a warranty travels with the vehicle...NOT the owner
