Low Beam Failure Message

So I have been experiencing this message quite a bit lately. The bulb is not blown or anything, could this be a ballast problem??? It will cut off and then back on only on the driver side headlamp. If I cut the car off and then back on, it will clear the message. But it some how will return.

Check all your bulbs with the lights on and stop using italics http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Is this better?
I have checked all the bulbs, they are all fine its only the low beam driver side bulb. I was told that this could be a ballast problem.

Talk to your dealer, see if you can get a quick diagnostic, chat with a tech. Then you know what to fix?

Have you checked the headlight? Anything wrong, cut, shorting, yadda yadda yadda? Be careful, high voltage in there.

I have taken the cap off the back of the headlamp, and everything looks to be in check. I have a guy that was a master tech at my local dealer before they closed that I can shout at... Hopefuly he can scan it and find something... Thank god for Extended Warranties! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

check all your connections.
Save your $ and don't go to the dealer; try to diagnose it. If all the connections are OK then why don't you just order the ballasts yourself and replace them.

+1

I was having this problem intermittently. Driving along, driver's headlight turns off, warning light comes on. Toggle the switch and it comes back on.

After reading up on it, I was worried some moisture had gotten in there and took the lights off and pulled the bulbs to stick a hair dryer in there.

They looked pretty dry so i swapped the bulbs between lights and put it all back together and got ready to buy a new ballast if driver headlight went off, but the problem hasn't been back.
I get the message all the time, but my lights never actually go out. Just flicking the light switch back and forth gets rid of the message.

I figured it was just a bug.

Re: Low Beam Failure Message (S60R1)

Well the closest dealer to me is 45 minutes, and they suck something fierce. I had a busted angle gear, which by no means is an afternoon job with ordering parts and all, but its not a 3 week project!! and The next closest is about a hour in the opposite direction... So I will talk to the master Volvo tech I know, and if he cant figure it out then I will have to result in going to the dealer for the warranty work...
Don't know if you checked this as well, but there is a "shunt" or resistor pack in the CEM that maybe loose in the socket? Long shot but worth a look.
Re: (juve021)

Ill definitely have to check it out... Cant hurt! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
