Just picked up a 2002 V70 AWD for an airport car / when my daughter is home from college driver. 147k on the clock, kind of low-content... i think it only has the cold weather package.

Anyhoo.....

Getting two warnings in the message area, the first is an urgent airbag that I'll sort out later by checking the underseat connectors. The other one says low beam failure but the low beams look fine to me...

Any ideas?

TIA

The airbag warning is probably because battery was disconnected. Not really urgent. Can be cleared with volvo scanner from amazon or with visa/dice. Low beam failure maybe wrong amperage on light such as having an LED in there without a resistor.

Thanks.

Hooked up VIDA/Dice last night and cleared the codes, and they haven't come back. Now I can focus on the other problems hahaha..... new pf axle, front brakes, possibly a caliper.

Anyone recommend a decent axle that isn't $590? I've been thru several of the $89 ones on my XC70 and would like something longer-lived that doesn't break the bank.

A few after pics and a before... it was a filthy mess and still has a lot of clean up to go.

Grab an OEM JY axle and have it rebuilt? This is what I'll do next time, though the ~$89 aftermarket PS axle in my V70 has been OK for the 3 or 4 years I've been running it.

Fingers crossed that this works out well for you. Ignored Scottish's plea to run? LOL
Pics aren't working - would love to see progress!

Yeah, I respect Scottish's opinion and he knows more than anyone about these cars but I got it anyway - it was only $800 and it'll see only a couple thousand miles a year. I don't want an M56 and I have a bastard of a driveway in winter, so AWD is not just a ding on fuel economy but has real utility. I had planned on straightening out the 2000 XC but I just don't have the time and it has so many issues I didn't know where to start ...major evap, bad axle, leaking a/c, torn leather, dragging caliper, and I suspect a clogged PCV (found this dipstick dislodged). I could have dropped a grand into it easily and still had a clunker. Was going to try my hand at wrapping it Polestar Blue since my son ill advisedly removed the ice from the hood with a scraper. Such is the exuberance of youth lol.

This car is by no means perfect but the PO did keep after the major stuff, I have records going back to 2014 where they spent just under $5k on timing belt, control arm bushings, brakes, etc. Hoses and torque mount all seem new. Seems solid enough if cosmetically sub-par.

Apparently a trip thru the car wash was a bridge too far....I had to use a power washer. There was actually lichen growing on the weather stripping hahahahah. The white stuff? Sunscreen and little kids!

Wow! That actually looks pretty decent. Hard to pass up for 800. Did it pass inspection?

Seats removed, 2 bottles of Cork Rub, 2 cans of Tuff Stuff, a steam generator, a boat load of elbow grease, and a lot of help from my daughter later....

Which rims would you use on the 2002? These from the 2000 or the originals?
