Hello,

Shortly after a replacement of a serpentine belt during a routine maintenance, our car has developed a loud noise that is RPM based. It's a medium pitched whine, and it does not go away while driving. I believe that it's coming from the power steering pump, as it sounds like it is near the top of the engine. Topped off the power steering fluid (chf 11), no change.

There is also a small amount of white, toxic smoke coming from the right side of the engine near the firewall. No idea if it's related to the noise.

If anyone has encountered this, advice is welcome. Thank you!

Did you replace the pulleys?

Exactly what I was going to write. Sounds like an idler pulley.
