In the past couple of weeks my wifes 98 V70 AWD Turbo has lost some of its VROOOM. The gas pedal seems to need more pressure applied to it. The accelaration from take off is slow and it will only go to about 3500 rpm and you have to take foot off gas to have chang up a gear. I tried the usual suspect and changed air filter and clenaed the Mass air flow. My next sep is to change fuel filter. Does anybody have any suggetions of what might have happened. Help!!!!!!!!

Catalytic convertor may be plugged up.

Take a rag and have someone hang it loosely over the tailpipe.
Then rev the car, it should almost blow out of their hand.
If the rag barely moves I would say plugged cat.

Re: Loss of power Need Help!!! (geraldc70)

Cleaning the MAF won't do anything. If it is bad, eventually it'll throw some codes for fuel enrichment at maximum amount. It's a PITA to diagnose, because all of the numbers (airflow, etc) will seem right. Find a known good one, toss it in, clear all codes, and see how it runs.
Code clearing may have to be done with VIDA or similar, not sure if the OBD2 ones will also cause the adaptions to reset. Never tried.

I battled this problem for a year. Kept looking for a vacuum leak. Tried "cleaning " the MAF. Then one of the guys at my local dealer lent me his "test" MAF, and did the above. Problem solved.
