Top Gear just reviewed the Mazdaspeed6. Like it or not, it went around their test track in 1:32.2. S60R did it in 1:35.0 in Advanced and with DSTC off in the dry. Both cars almost weigh the same and the Mazdaspeed6 has less hp and torque. Shame on you Volvo. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif" BORDER="0">

Re: Looks like Mazda made a faster version of the R. (PhilUp)

It appear that the MS6 has very much RWD bias when pushed.

the second I saw the specs on the Mazdaspeed 6 I saw S60R written all over it...only it's cheaper. Never been in one....but knowing what I do about Mazda, it's probably a relatively nice/sporty car..but it won't be nearly as luxurious as the volvo. <p>for the money, i bet it's a great car. it will be interesting to see if there is much aftermarket support for the MS6

Yeah its pretty peppy in 0-60 but in the higher gears that thing drags! I remember the article in Car & Driver or one of those car mags compared a bunch of sport sedans and the Mazdaspeed 6 was like 24-25 seconds 0 -100. 0 - 60 it was just under 6 but dang what happens in those upper gears?!?!?!<p>I've seen a few on the road down in Irvine and they are pretty nice looking on the outside. Definitely needs a drop but cool looking none-the-less. The interior I cannot say tho. <p>Once thing for the MS6 owners is I hope some company makes an aftermarket FMIC kit for it because it has got to have the WORST intercooler placement ever. It barely even has an opening for air to travel over it!

Re: (Tekk)

It uses a longer final drive for 5th and 6th gear. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0">

Its just funny that it is so sluggish in the top gears. Too bad for the highway racers (although I wonder what 4th gear tops out at)

Re: (Tekk)

I read on some Mazda forums that it was a heatsoak/ecu issue and I think it's fixed now.

I saw that review as well, looks like a cool car.<p>Quote from Jeremy:<p>"I've driven 100,000 pound coupe's that aren't as much fun as this"<p>Now THAT'S saying something.<p>Are the Mondeo and MS6 built on the same platform or anything? They're both Ford...

It has Direct Injection unlike Volvo - it makes a BIG difference. I know i have stated that the R needs DI over and over again but many you continue to dismiss this need. It would counteract the huge performance varations the R displays at extreme temperatures too.

A coworker of mine has a mazda 6. The interior doesn't hold a candle to the R's interior. I'd take the interior+performance over just performance. Just my 2 cents.

That BMW only has 129HP! (0-60 in 10 seconds)

It's funny, the MazdaSpeed 6 has gotten a "meh" from car mags here in the US, but Clarkson loves it......<p>I might also look at the Legacy GT for a bargain alternative to the R with similar configurations.

I test drove the MS6 a few months ago...pathetic. Horrible acceleration, no torque...handles poorly. Not sure who from Road and track was reviewing it by my review gives it 5TD
