Looking to trade my 06 S60R

After having my 06 S60R for 19 months I am looking to trade it in for a VW Touareg, not sure what year yet as long as its the V6 for fuel economy and the price is right. If I didnt care about fuel I would get the V10. What is every ones opinion on The Touareg? I like the prices on this car that Ive seen. This vehicle will also be used for delivering small boxes as well as my every day driver. I usually put less than 10,000 miles on my personal vehicles each year and thats including small delivery jobs. We still would have our S80 which has been nothing short of perfect. I just need a larger vehicle right now with 4x4 and a good price tag.

nice design and performance, DREADFUL reliability. Will make an R seem like a Toyota. Wouldn't touch one without an extended warranty.

Personally....I think they're hideous.

If I were to buy a SUV/Crossover of that sort, I'd either get a used XC90 3.2, BMW X5, wait for the XC60, or the Acura MDX/RDX.

My $0.02.

I agree with you on the choice of an SUV - I thing those Toureags are very nice.
However, you're going form a hefty engine (T5) to one hat's pretty rubbish - I don't get it. If you're upgrading, you might as well go for either a V8 or bite the bulltet and check out the V10. V6 gasoline is just not cutting it IMO

A Touareg is HEAVY, like over 5,000 lbs IIRC. That V6 is weak sauce for that vehicle, you'll get terrible mileage due to the fact that you're always stomping on it.

Get the diesel, you probably get a bulk discount, and you'll get better mileage, especially if you're hauling cargo.

I've heard about reliability issue that are heavy, even for a VAG product. But none of us are strangers to that.

Check into resale values vs. other options too.

Why not trade for a V70 R or the VW Passat wagon 3.6L 4-motion? My wife has the passat sedan and it's great. Sounds like you just need a bit more room. If you decide on the Toureg consider the V8; the gas mileage won't be much worse then the V6.

I test drove the V6 a couple of years ago and it was a complete dog. No performance whatsoever...stepping on the gas and waiting 10 seconds for it to start moving. That engine is not up to the task of moving that large a vehicle.

But the interior was very very nice, just needed more power!

I like ze V10 TDI http://********************/smile/emcocktl.gif .. 310hp and 553 ft/lbs tq at 2000 rpm which could be way higher tuned.. now the best part is it gets 17mpg city and 23mpg highway which is not much worse than the R might I say. It can go over 600 miles on a single tank... v6 = nono

I think we are going to be moving up to the XC90 in a few months, but I'm trying to talk my wife into a Porsche Cayenne S, but she isn't too keen on it.......yet!

I've heard the same about the VW, horrible reliability issues.

Cayenne = Toureag = similar reliability issues (excluding the engine ofcoruse)

Touareg = Cayenne = Q7 = junk. There are like 50 lemon law T/C/Q's running a month at Manheim. I wouldn't go near any of them with a 50 foot pole!

Get a used 2007 Tahoe LTZ.

I absolutely love that crossover and it comes very well equipped. If I had to leave my R, I would leave it for that

That's kind of what I figured. Doesn't matter anyway, wife won't drive it, because it's a Porsche.

So, we're sticking to the XC90.

Yeah, the Q7 doesn't surprise me a bit, it IS an AUDI after all.
