edit: the topic should say "an 850" sorry

hi i have been looking over this site for a while and did some searching but still had a few questions. i am looking into buying an 1995-1997 850 wagon for my wife. i would prefer a GLT but it is not neccesary. basically any of the trim models would be fine including a turbo

i have done a lot with vw's in the past and now am into jeeps so i have quite a bit mechanical knowlegde. i would like to know any problem areas to look for. i can check the usually stuff. any problems like trannies, a/c, seals, etc to look for?
thanks so much!

how does this one sound?

1995 VOLVO 850 turbo wagon, very clean, white w/graphite leather, second owner, never wrecked, very well maintained, synthetic oils, 93k miles, new trans, Bilstein shocks, sport springs, IPD exhaust, ECU adult owned. $14500

Sounds like a nice car, but more than you might want. If the model isn't important, not even a GLT, this one is pretty loaded. Nice car for sure from the sounds of it, but if you go for a normally aspirated car or a GLT, I bet you could easily come in under or around $10K.

I think low milage is probably more important than the actual year of the car but if it is a bit on the high side check the service history (a good idea regardless). Highway miles are also good in comparison to city miles if you trust the owner's word (maybe he/she has a long commute to work). I have 170,000km on my car and the Volvo mechanics say the car is still young for milage. Mind you I service it religously.
My roomate just bought a '94 turbo and some of the turbo lines leaked loosing some boost. It was fixed quickly and easily but still something to look out for. If you do buy the turbo expect that you may be swapping your wife cars here and there

Good luck!

$14,500 for that car is really top dollar for that car, even for the Pacific NorthWest where car prices seem to be the highest in the countrry. I base this on experience at the auctions where I see used car managers from Volvo stores in the PNW pay $1500. or more than what we normally see the cars trading for. To give you an idea I just sold a 95 855 Turbo with a 3 rd seat, one owner car with 12 months/ 15,000 miles of powertrain waranty, fully serviced for $11,500. This was a clean car with EVERY service record from the dealer. The only thing "different" about the car was it came with Borbet wheels. I gave the buyer the option of the stock turbo wheels or the Borbets and he liked the aftermarket better. He already has a 95 sedan and didn't like the price f replacing a bent turbo wheel compared to the $125. for the Borbet from Tire Rack. Keep in mind when purchasing your car that the price reflects the service needed for the mileage, ie; a 57,000 mile car w/o services at $13500 isn't as good of a deal as a 60,000 mile car fro the same price when you add in the cost of the 60k service.....very important is the 70k service for thew timing belt. Any questions feel free to ask... JOE

wow. that is a great price. i can barely find any 850 wagons here. i have thought about trying to buy off ebay and flying out to pick one up. i haven't seen one locally for less than $13,000. and most have high miles. i want to be patient and wait for the right 850 wagon, but only having one car for the family is tough. i am looking at a black 5 speed wagon tonight though.

This is a One Owner Vehicle with a Clean CarFax and Title.
It has been very well taken care of and maintained.
The features on this car include: AM-FM Cass. CD, Premium Sound, Winter/Sport Switch, Heated Seats, Foglites, Sunroof, Third Seat.
