Hello Everyone, with a 15 month old and plan for another within next few years, i decided to look into wagon. I was very disappointed when i read there were no T5 or AWD available for the V70's. On top of that no manuals! Going from an S40 T5 AWD manual to a 3.2 V70 is going to be very tough....but its all about the baby these days.
A couple quick questions for you V70 owners. Will my Evolve R5 wheels fit on the V70? I read the bolt patter is the same but wondering if i will experience any issues or will need spacers/hub rings?
Did any of you V70/XC70 owners consider a V50? i did the side by side spec measurements and the interior dimensions werent too far off. The big difference was the Rear Hip Room (+/- 4.4) and the Luggage Capacity (+/- 9.6). Is this really a big difference? If not, i might consider a V50 T5 R-Design.

Re: Looking into a V70 or XC70 (S40TRBO)

Other way around for me.
I have a V50 T5AWD, 1 kid (hopefully another in the next few years) and am looking at a V70/XC70. With even just one kid, the V50 was pretty cramped on an extended road trip. And I have unique cargo holding needs (I do woodworking). Yes, those measurements you mention are a huge difference. Much more so in person than on paper.
I'd consider an XC60 if I were you. It's out of the running for me, but I found it a slight upgrade from the V50. a bit more cargo room, slightly higher stance, etc.

Looking into a V70 or XC70 (S40TRBO)

I went from an 03 XC90 to the V70. I wanted something with smaller exterior dimensions but when I looked at V50 after looking at V70 I felt like I was going backwards in technology. There is not much else out there that is smaller (VW, Audi) so I ended up with the V70. I have a little over 1K miles and love it. Smoothest ride I have ever had. No problems going from 2.5T on the XC90 to the V70, after all I gained about 27HP. It's no rocket but but I'm loving the increased mpg's over the XC90, and it is so much easier to clean. As far as kids go, don't have any but the convenience package has built in booster seats, so it may be a plus for parents.

It is not as sporty or fun as the V50 T5 AWD (I drove it only once) because of the weight of the XC70 but the performance is there. Unfortunately you have to get the XC70 or the XC60 for the T6, they don't import the V70 with the T6 (I beleive it is because Volvo NA don't want to import the V70 AWD and because the T6 has too much torque for a front weel drive only car). Thanks for the responses everyone! I'll be going to the dealership this weekend and it looks like ill be eligible for "loyalty" incentive.
I'll compare all 3 wagons (likely between the V70 and XC70 though), but i am also keeping my eye out for a 07 V70R. I'll keep everyone up to date.

If you haven't already, check out the comments I made on an V50/XC60/XC70 in-person comparison:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...18186

Re: Looking into a V70 or XC70 (etherfarm)

Yes i did read your post and was one of the reasons i decided against the XC60. The technology in that car is awesome, but I really don't see myself driving an SUV either.
Looks like we're in the same boat. What type of options are you looking for in you're XC70?
Btw...has anyone seen a White V70 or XC70 with black interior? I know the option is available but all the dealers i've checked have the tan interior/white exterior combo.

My quick take on the XC70 T6 was great engine, good handling (with 4C) and must have the graphite interior. That tan steering wheel will look nasty quick. I did notice something about an upgraded steering wheel available though? My wife hated the dorky looks.

White and black to me seem like the more common combo. Odd they have the tan matched to white exterior.

Options: pretty much everything except BLIS (premium, climate, convenience, nav, etc.), though the car this service has found already has BLIS. Wish I could take it off. I like technology but, you know, I already know how to change lanes.
Waiting to get a price back on the car before deciding whether to bite or wait in hope of a better engine for the V70. All signs seem to suggest nothing's going to happen on the V70 front. So I might have a new car in the next few weeks.
It's not really a black interior. It's a dark gray. It's nice, non-descript. Would be a better fit, IMHO, for the white exterior than the tan. I do like the tan interior because it makes the whole cabin seem much ligher and more airy, but yeah, I took one look at it and knew immediately it's not practical.
You might be suprised with the BLIS. I wanted it for the folding mirror capability because I park in a deck with narrow spots but have actually learned to like it on my daily drives. It is a reminder of what is in the blind spot just in case a turn of the head missed it.

I'm keeping an open mind. The fact that the car has BLIS won't be reason for me to pass on it.
I didn't realize that BLIS made the mirror housings motorized. I guess that will come handy once or twice. Then I'll blow my top when I have to replace a broken mirror at a cost of $1000....
As long as it doesn't beep or I can turn the beep off, I'm good.

That solves that mystery - I couldn't find any information how to get the motorized folding mirror option; had no idea it came witht he BLIS package. When I'd asked the salesperson he didn't have that info.

Quote, originally posted by etherfarm »

......I didn't realize that BLIS made the mirror housings motorized. Orange light on the inside by the mirror about half an inch square comes on when a car's in the blind spot on that side. My only gripe is it's a bit too big IMO, as other cars that use the same technology like the Audi's are a bit more subtle, which I'd have preferred - this grabs your attention too much at night b/c it's so big and bright even though you might not even be contemplating changing lanes, since you see it out of the corner of your eye, but other ones I've seen are built into the mirror housing outside the car, so you really only see the light if you intentionally look in the side mirror, which is how it should be IMO.

You're right on the size of that little orange square. In the daytime it gently catches your eye, but once you get used to it you can ignore looking at it. But at night, there is no way to ignore it. I wished it would dim with the dash light control dial. I wonder if the lens cover of the BLIS light could be tinted?

Re: Looking into a V70 or XC70 (S40TRBO)

S40TRBO, I moved up from a V50 T5 AWD to the XC70 T6 and I absolutely love it. The power is wonderful, it handles better than any SUV, but not as well as a regular wagon because the center of gravity is slightly higher. The ride is smooth and the car is quieter than my wife's Lexus RX.
4C may improve the handling, but I don't think one buys an all-road, all-condition vehicle like this with the expectation of sports wagon handling. If 4C were available in the US, I still would have passed on it because of cost of repair.
The built in booster seats are very easy to use and my wife's grandkids love them because they sit higher and can see out the windows.
I love that this car weighs two tons. It is solid, quiet, luxurious and safe; just what I was looking for. Gas mileage was not even on my list of considerations; I've been averaging 19 in mixed driving and I am fine with that.
The nav system is integrated nicely with the bluetooth system and I love controlling my iPod from the steering wheel.
I never thought I would get comments from people in parking lots or gas stations while driving a Volvo wagon, but in Ruby Red, this car draws attention. Every one that has ridden in it comments favorably on the modern wood; they love the look and feel of the grain (me too).
I missed a manual when I had to give it up, but you get used to it. And when the grand kids are in the car, I do not miss it at all.
I thought long and hard about V70 3.2 vs. XC70 T6. I liked the look of the V70 better, but in the end, my desire for horspower won out. Even if they brought the V70 T6 to the US now I would still chose the XC.

I have the white/black colour combo and its great. I didnt like the wood on offer to got the brushed metal but I find it marks with little paw prints. If you want to see some good photographs of white/black combo on a xc70 find any post by Notthestig on this site and click on his flikr tag and you will see lots. his vehicle is fully loaded too.
cheers
Hatdriver

Re: Looking into a V70 or XC70 (Hatdriver)

Barents, i really appreciate you're feedback since you're coming from the S40/V50 world. I too prefer the look of the V70, but the loss of power would be too much to bear. Thanks for you're input...you have any pics of your car? I'd love to see the Ruby Red combo.
Went to the dealership this afternoon and of course they didn't have ANY XC70's. The manager did a local, then national search for a white/black combo and there are ONLY 2 in the country (Minnesota and New Jersey). Real bummer that i couldn't even drive one because i'm still not 100% on what to get yet.
The average sticker price seems to be 45k-50k, right now there is a $5500 incentive and it looks like i can drop another grand for loyalty. Does this price seem about right? I didn't realize the XC70's were the priciest Volvos! I was hoping to get one out the door for $35k, but it doesn't seem like that'll happen.
The V70 might win out because of this....ill find out Monday afternoon as the manager is doing a search for a XC70 white/tan combo and will let me know if he can meet my budget. I also asked him to look for an 08 XC70, 08/09 white/black V70, and IF POSSIBLE 07 V70R.
