Hi guys, Im looking at my next Volvo. Ive owned an S70, C70 and now an s40. I'm looking for a DD type of vehicle that sporty for some spirited driving. So Im looking for an s60R. Im looking at a 05 auto with 123k miles. Car looks very clean and maintained but its a dealer. Im just looking for any input on things to look for, I know about timing belt and PCV which I will do as soon as I get the car. But, what else should I look for when purchasing?

Also Im reading about cracked cylinder sleeves on these, is that common in these motors?

1 - every later year got a little better it seems.
2 - the 05 auto sucks. It's torque limited by design so it won't pull as hard as the 06 on
3 - get a VIDA scan on every potential purchase. Buy a clone from digital life if you are really serious
4 - cracked cylinders are a thing. You might consider getting a combustion gas test kit on rental from auto zone and using it too.
5 - I haven't driven an R that was for sale where the suspension wasn't somehow shafted.
6 - manual manual manual
7 - wait around for a good one. I didn't and it has cost me as much in parts as a good one to make it go.

Got an 04 with 123k in texas i will part with.

Fresh stage 0
Rkelly installed
Silver w/ gobi
Timing belt done at 115k
Runs and drives great.
Great maint history from Volvo.

I'm not really looking to sell but I've got an 04 with 151k in NC that I will let go for the right price.

3rd owner but I have full records going back to birth including costs:
Manual, Nav, 4C works, 4CD audio
Majority of maintenance by Volvo
Red w/ Atacama
Timing belt broke at 87k so top end of engine rebuilt in 2012.
Angle gear replaced in 2012.
Clutch replaced in 2014.
Power steering pump/reservoir replaced in early 2015.
Average mileage 27-29mpg (depending on season and right foot discipline)
I've put 60k on it since January 2013.

Turbo leaks oil (tiny amount) but it burns oil like it grew up in Maranello in the 80s. Volvo says I can replace the turbo $2k or continue to put a quart (Euro-spec synthetic) in when the low oil light comes on. Oil is changed every 6 - 8 weeks (2000-3000 miles). Wheels rotated and aligned every 2 months. 18" Pegs with Continental DWS.

I'm down in Miami Fl. Not looking to ship anything. I found a clean car with low miles but owner says AWD is not working but car drives fine and you wouldn't know it until you need AWD. How expensive could this get?

It's probably the angle gear collar. Do you do your own work on cars?

I do, trying to get more away from it due to time but I am very mechanically inclined. What would it be to have a shop take care of it, worst case.
