Re: Looking for independant Volvo Mechanic Chicago Area (swveeedbeast)

I can personally reccomend

European House of Auto Repair
5901 N. Ridge Ave
Chicago, Il
773-761-3100

C Paul or Sean, been using them for almost 20 years. My personal IM

or

Swedish Car Specialists, Inc.
916 Lunt Avenue, Schaumburg, IL 60193
Randy 847-891-3133

who is way too far away for me to use regularly, but great work as well.

Good luck.

I know it has been many years since your question was posted, but if you or anyone needs a volvo mechanic, there is only 1 place. Contact volvochicago@live.com and I promise you that not only will you be dealing with the nicest volvo mechanic but also the most knowledgeable, most professional, best work ethics, most understanding, best quality and also cheapest. You ask yourself how is that possible to be the best yet the cheapest? I don't know, I guess you have to contact him and ask him why he cares so much about people and fixing their cars instead of money like everybody else. I have 2 volvos and would never go anywhere else for the service as long as he is around.
Thank you

i live quite a distance from private volvo mechanic. Chicago and could have transferred my car's service closer to home, after I tried His service it's worth the drive to be treated so well . The repair and prices, service was great he fixed all problems to perfection . To me is Well worth the drive! Dealerships close to my home don't compare with his quality I used to spent lot money in other dealers but was never that happy like with Private Volvo mechanic Chicago I will come to him whatever my next car is not just volvo . His email to contact him 24 hours he reply's fast

Double post here so...

After reading several messages here, I have decided to contact volvochicago@live.com and he sure responded quick, within minutes we agreed upon taking my car up to his workshop for an inspection the next day. I talked to him on the phone and he reckon with my car being up in the 200k+ miles, the overheating problem is most likely attributed to the dust/film buildup on the radiator thus causing the fan to overwork.

Here are some of the pictures of the original factory part with the date code.

I ended up having to replace the radiator (volvo part), the fan (german fan), new temp sensor, and he even threw in a thermostat just because he had one laying around! Same Volvo parts, excellent workmanship!

I probably spent more money on this old car than I should but I feel so good about it because everything else on the car are still good, better to keep it as second car or pass it along to family member!

Overall I am very happy with volvochicago@live.com and will bring my car to him again!

I have been using my IM for 30 years, but I don't make repeated comments within single thread touting his expertise. If you call Sean, you will receive the same response. What do think will be the answer, "No, I don't want to see your car?".

Such redundancy reeks of spam and a personal agenda.

I respectfully disagree with the poster above.

I see nothing wrong with recommending a local independent mechanic in a thread seeking the same.

The date of original post is irrelevant as mechanics change/retire /relocate over time.

In fact, I would like to recommend Private Volvo Mechanic as well because of MY experience with him.

He's been working on my 2 Volvos for at least 2 years now and has saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. He's also a certified Volvo Mechanic.

Patrick Volvo had basically been ripping me off for 3 years before I got smart and found a cpl of posts in an "old" thread on another forum. Patrick wanted $1700 for a full brake job on my 08 S80 and told me I couldn't get ceramic pads! I got my ceramic pads and new rotors from volvochicago@live.com out the door for $700!

Great guy, great value and I am happy to recommend his services to any Volvo owner.

Count me as one happy customer.

Chicago Area mechanic

I can personally recommend volvochicago@live.com to provide your Volvo with more than competitive pricing. I have used him for quite some and he has never failed to fix any problem that I have had. His prices are very fair, hundreds cheaper than a dealer, and he has access to parts for any model. Over the years he has saved me hundreds, if not thousands and has kept me from having to run all over town getting quotes from other shops.
Try him once and you will be back again I promise.

Chicagoans tend to be cynics, it has to do with our government.

I can't help but wonder if these glowing posts are merely shills for the touted shop. i.e. Spam advertising. Especially when they put down an established shop with a 30 year history. To say nothing of the snarky attitude.

Caveat emptor.

Volvo dealer are also established they don't talk about them ? no one is putting shops down or writing about dealers or established shops this is about more experience with this specific place / person . And if you look all around other forums they write there also . Best would be for you if you have volvo you try it out with him if you in Chicago and then you can see compared to established shops what you like your choice then and then you can write bad poor what you like if you not happy .that is my opinion and view .i know I can find shop or dealer anytime and go there If i like but that is not what this is about

This is a perfect example of why I don't miss living in Chicago. So much con/shadiness....
Trying to find a decent place for my mother and her Volvos and even Swedespeed got tainted. Nuts.

Dude. You read my mind. I hate it here. I moved here from NY last year and its been the worst trying to find a decent mechanic. I will drive to wisconsin or Indiana or Michigan for a decent mechanic. I recently drove from hyde park to the Hiawatha NATL forest to primitive camp and my car's tie rods were metal on metal and car was pulling when I would brake. i took it to a tire place in wisconsin and these guys put it on the lift and were freaking out that I was about to drive 5 hours North.
They found a cracked power steering res, all rotors were bad, front and rear suspension was toast. I was under the car with them while it was on the lift and we were just going over every detail together. This is what I expect from a good mechanic. The place I went to in Chicago told me I has a crank no start and told me I need to pay 9hrs labor for a new fuel pump. they have to drop the whole back end of the car to get to it. anyways long story short 2 new fuel pumps (they said the 1st one I gave them didnt work...im guessing they put the terminals on reversed and broke it and then said it was a bad pump) after that i go to pick up the car and it wont start. Same issue Crank no start. he brings out his portable jumper box and jumps my car and it starts instantly.
Was this 1200 job simply a battery? I couldve gone to interstate and bought a 150 battery and saved a thousand bucks. well at least I wont need to replace my fuel pump anytime soon. Oh btw the private volvo mechanic thats spamming here and making fake accounts with 1 or 2 posts should be banned by an admin. I called that guy too when I was shopping around for mechanics and he said he cant replace the fuel pump for me and that he doesnt have a lift or garage. Hes basically a guy on the street doing cheap fixes. no insurance. no garage. no bueno! :(

If anyone has a good mechanic let me know. I'll drive 2 hours for one just to get away from this chicago garbage. If you have less than 12 posts dont respond.
NVM just emailed SCS in Schaumburg IL 60193.
We'll see how it goes. I went to their site and they look really good. (maybe expensive but they definitely know volvos. They even have IPD banners on their site which says to me they are true enthusiasts.

I might have to go here. I called SCS in Schaumburg and they they charge $140hr. labor...that's basically dealer territory! Then he says he will look into it and call me back. That was 5 days ago. No call back.
I called German Concepts and spoke with Kevin. Super knowlegeble and really nice guy. All i need to do is email him my parts and VIN. He already emailed me back. They charge $90hr which is more my budget. its 90Mi away from me but its worth it for a job that can take up to 9 hours. The rear springs and shocks can take up to 2 hrs each. Thanks paradoxicallymodified!
